Andy “StrumSlinger” Wong Leaves PWE, Thanks Dev Team and Community

They say sometimes it’s good to be wrong, but this unfortunately is a case of the opposite. As we’ve suspected on Tuesday, the new job offer for a Community Manager on the PWE website indeed was aimed at replacing Andy “StrumSlinger” Wong, who in a series of tweets announced his departure yesterday. He also used the opportunity to thanks his colleagues, the Neverwinter development team and community.

A lot of experience is leaving the company

The announcement was met with many responses mourning the decision. Some people surely knew since a few days, but weren’t able to share their thoughts publicly earlier.

If we recall that correctly StrumSlinger had been a QA tester before taking over as Community Manager for Neverwinter in 2015. At the end of last year he then moved into a broader role within PWE, but remained part of the game. Among other things he worked the Driftwood Tavern Community Stream format and served as mentor for his replacement Julia “nitocris83” Fredrickson. A lot of experience with community work is leaving the company. It coincidentally comes only days after we’ve touched on the constant personnel changes and the difficulties that come with it.

We can only speculate about the reasons at this point. It has been mentioned on Discord that Andy already has a new gig, so he might just have landed a more lucrative or intriguing role with another company. We’re certainly interested and will monitor his Twitter account on Monday!

There’s no replacement yet

It’s also unclear at this point what will happen with various streams and other formats as Andy and Julia have tag-teamed most stuff. The streams were hosted at PWE with Julia just connecting through Skype. Maybe Amanda Kane can step in, but we might just see a drop in activity until someone new is brought in. Other than that, the impact on the game is admittedly small, but StrumSlinger as person and face of the community surely will be missed.

We definitely wish him all the best for his future endeavors! And who knows, maybe we’ll see his squishy Paladin alongside the Sword Coast occasionally?
