Bag of Tricks Vol. 28: Stay Away From The ZEN Market Profession Packs

Bag of Tricks Logo

Welcome to the 28th installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

The devs have a history of not properly updating old content to match the current state of the game, which has led to useless or overpriced professions, campaign tasks and other minor annoyances. Lately one of those lapses hit the ZEN market, more specifically the profession packs.

We’e not sure when the Professions Booster Pack, Professions Assets Pack and Black Ice Shaping Booster Pack stopped returning proper value for their price tag, but it’s definitely being the case right now. The current Professions Master Pack is listed for 25,000 AD (~ 53 ZEN) and drops two guaranteed assets up to purple quality, possibly a third purple one or a Forgehammer of Gond, and a bunch of resources not lower than uncommon. The Booster Pack from the ZEN market for six times the price has only one guaranteed asset, possibly two more uncommon ones and still includes white resources. You can already make a case that the Master Pack beats the Booster Pack straight up and comparing what you get for the same price (5-6 Master Packs vs. one Booster Pack), it’s no competition at all.

It gets even worse with the Asset Pack at 1,600 ZEN, or 30 Master Packs. It returns five guaranteed assets, which you also should own by opening three Master Packs. Plus a chance at the Forgehammer. Plus Resources. Yikes. This currently means the appropriate price for the ZEN Packs is 50 ZEN and 150 ZEN respectively.

Meanwhile 1,500 ZEN, one Black Ice Booster Pack, can also land you 40-50 Black Ice Master Packs and approximately 20-30x the value, depending on what you’re looking for.

Bottom line: Stay away from the ZEN profession packs right now and get your Dragon Easter Eggs somewhere else!
