Bag of Tricks Vol. 35: Volley off the Wall

Bog of Tricks Logo

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

The Summer Festival is on and with it the new Ticket-Ball gift system. Originally designed as cooperative and skill based event, players quickly found ways of getting to the maximum of 30 volleys per ticket easily.

Doing the volley the intended way in the open world can be tricky. Groups need to spread out and ideally communicate who is getting the next volley. It can certainly be done and is actually fun. But since desirable rewards can be bought with tickets and more volleys equal more tickets, players usually take the fastest route available.

Volley of the Wall

All techniques players developed during the first day of the event are centered around the fact that the ball can’t bounce randomly if trapped inside or under structures. And it is legitimate as developer asterdahl confirmed on the forums.

Corners and Walls

The most obvious way to do your volley is using corners or walls to volley against. Just face the corner, spawn the ball and kick it in the corner. It will just slide up and down, making the volleys easy. At walls the positioning is a little bit more complicated, but works as well. In some corners the ball can get stuck and despawn before the max 30 volleys. So make sure to find your favorite spot.

The Guard Booth

Guard Booth in the Enclave

In case two walls limiting the ball aren’t enough for you, why not take three and a roof? The guard booths in PE are a popular place to launch ticket balls. Just gather your party inside, release against one of the walls and hit. Some players claim that you don’t always get to the max 30 volleys with this one though.

Make sure that at least two or three players are hitting the ball for maximum volleys. Also don’t be stupid and send the ball out the door.

Bridges

Another place to get the ball completely stuck are bridges like the one on the event venue. Getting your party under the bridge and as close to the stairs as possible has the same effect as the guard booths.

Face the stairs and release. You again want as many players kicking the ball as possible to quickly reach the maximum volleys.

Foundry

Foundry Map for Tickets

The Foundry is back and of course gets involved here as well. Players are starting to design quests that feature a small room with high walls to share their ticket balls.

In case the foundry remains up and stable, this could develop into the premier way to to the ball exchange throughout the event.
