Bag of Tricks Vol. 63: Tyrannosaur Safe Spot

Bog of Tricks Logo

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

The tyrannosaur mobs in Chult are one of the more dangerous in the game. Not only do they hit like trucks, but also push and throw adventurers all over the map with a flurry of different charges and knockbacks that are at least annoying and can be deadly. Depending on the player’s power the normal tyrannosaur mob already presents a challenge. And the T-Rex or King of Spines normally have to be tackled as a team. But there’s one easy way that makes dealing with these encounters a little bit easier. As it turns out the size of the monsters can actually be used against them.

Can you see me?

Tyrannosaur mobs can’t hit you at all if you stand directly under them. What you want to do is aim for the red “base” between their legs. The mobs will hit companions and try their spin attack, but aren’t able to reach your toon. This works with Tyrannosaur, Tyrannosaurus Rex, King of Spines and possibly even the Allosaur. One noticeable exception is the breath attack of King of Spines, which has a strange area of effect anyway.

Other than that DPS toons are perfectly safe dancing between the legs of tyrannosaurs. The mobs will occasionally jump back, but then you can simply follow up and take the safe spot again. Especially doing the encounters solo is much more convenient this way.
