Bag of Tricks Vol. 78: Make Sure to Exit the Merchant Prince Folly’s Skirmish Before Re-Queueing

Bog of Tricks Logo

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

Next to the ongoing Ras Nsi loot issues, players have to fend off a similar, yet comparably minor, issue with another Mod 12 reward chest right now. If you’re running the Merchant Prince’s Folly skirmish a lot, especially in multi runs, you might have experienced a situation in which you can’t interact with the end chest. It just never unlocks on completing the skirmish.

The bug happens when you queue for your next run while still inside the skirmish. So if you want to get your end chest on every run, make sure to exit the map each time. You have to fully load into a different map, or the chest will bug. While this sounds like an easy enough workaround, it can get pretty annoying if you have an impatient queue leader. Tell them that you want to claim chests and that they have to wait for the next queue until you greenlight it. If you’re the leader yourself, make the party aware of the bug and do ready checks.

This way you can hopefully avoid the Merchant Prince’s Folly end chest bug as player and team leader.

This is the most annoying thing about Zerg Channels, and it’s the fault of the queue group leader, not so much a bug with the chest. If the chest is designed to reset once you have left the map, it is WAI.

Not waiting until everyone in the queue group types

    “+”

to indicate they are ready to roll is just retarded, particularly on a 5-man run. Tiamat, it’s more difficult, so more care is required by the Leader.

It happened to me one time in Kessel’s, and there was a Belt of DEX (IIRC), and it happened to me in a Tiamat run recently, and there was a Tiamat’s Orb.

WOOSH! I was teleported away before I could claim the contents! Wasted my keys!

It’s happened only a few times, but most Queue Group Leader’s are not complete imbeciles, and those are the two at the top of my memory. I think maybe once in eDemo? And once in Shores of Tuern.

“It’s always rubbish in the quest” is no excuse, because it is not ALWAYS rubbish, just MOSTLY rubbish! 🙂 There’s often good salvage and at 100% Tiamat, there can be better stuff, and I used currencies to make the keys, so I might as well use them up. But not waste them. Some of my characters have 80 Dragon Queen keys, as there’s nothing else to spend the currencies on, except Stronghold.

And in Kessels’ “You should have said you weren’t ready” is the most ludicrous tap-dance to avoid responsibility I have ever seen. How can I type in the chat when I am looking in a chest?

Sure, I have 6 to 8 of almost every belt and a ton of cloaks in the bank, and most are incredibly cheap now, but that’s not the point. I wasted a Kessel’s Key that’s harder to make than a Tiamat key and the belts were worth a lot more then. And I wanted to give the Orb to a friend. Belts are 10 a penny now. It was the loss of the key more than the contents.

Thanks for the head’s up. I only did Merchant’s Folly once and that was on an OP in a random queue before they removed it. I had no clue what I was doing, so kept tanking the T-Rex, and then found I had no key anyway!

    LOL! 🙂

A common strategy used to get Gold is to have the tank lure the T-Rex away from the Engineer’s final destination so the rest of the group can complete the clear and the skirmish. Unfortunately, many people abandon the tank to keep fighting the T-Rex after the skirmish is done or re-queue while the T-Rex is still being finished off. This often leaves the tank without getting the option of the final chest, which may discourage them from pulling the T-Rex away in the future.
