Chult Fishing Guide

As the “Anglers of the Nothern Sea” have probably already eagerly noticed, Fishing is also a thing in Neverwinter’s “Tomb of Annihilation” module! The Soshenstar River comes with 15 brand new fish types and reeling fun! This time fishing is neither as rewarding nor grindy as in the Sea of Moving Ice, but it’s still worth to go over some stuff that’s good to know.

Reusable Assets

First of all, all assets acquired in SoMI can be fully reused. Your higher tier Kyheks and Fishing Rods come with the same bonuses and help you move around the river and catch fish faster. This obviously also means that you at least have to go through the introductory quests in SoMI and get the basic assets to be able to fish in Chult. The fishing mechanics stay the same. In case you need help on those, please refer to our SoMI Fishing Guide.

Three Biomes

The Soshentar River is split into three biomes that come with different fish. The map above shows the borders and the corresponding types. In the south (and possibly also in the north) part of the river there’s a small strip where two biomes overlap. Fishing there actually nets double rewards, one fish from each biome. We think it’s not intended, but if you’re not looking for a specific catch for your collection, this is the spot to make most out of your bait.

The basic bait by the way is only able to catch fish up to tier 4. For tier 5 fish you need to farm the Glowworm that drops from the flower nodes around the map.

Rewards

Speaking of rewards, the main purpose of fishing is to farm for Chultan Riches. The fish can be exchanged in Port Nyanzaru, and you’ll always land more than the bait costs. There is more however. A “tier 0” catch, the one that was able to pull “Maps in a Bottle” in SoMI, includes the following loot:

That said, it’s not really worth using it to farm Trophies or Salvage. But if you’re going for Chultan Riches it’s still nice to get some other stuff in the process. In the overlapping biome these get doubled as well. Last but not least a new title “Angler of the Soshenstar” is handed out for those that complete the collection.

Did you go through the full tutorial of Module 10.5 (Sea of Moving Ice) ? It might be necessary to “unlock” the fishing feature, but that’s just a wild guess tbh.
