Chultan Treasure Mass Opening: Is It Worth Farming?

Legendary +5 rings are a rare commodity ever since they’ve been introduced in Neverwinter’s Module 7: Underdark. Many theories about their drop chances have been going around. And it’s only theories because it’s really hard to test. At least for the rings in Chult this changed with the Chultan Treasure Chest. The chests are the rewards of the Treasure Hunt in Soshenstar River and, albeit capped at six per week, can be accumulated and multiplied on the preview server. That’s what Youtuber Rainer did in his most recent video. He opened 2,500 boxes, giving us a pretty good impression of the drop rates.

Legendary Chance: 8 out of 2,500

The drop rates are stated in the video description, but I’ve also added the results in our RNG Toolbox. The drop chance of the legendary ring probably feels discouraging to some. You’ll need about 312 boxes to pull a legendary on average, or a full year worth of Patrol Quests on one character. The Ring of the Hunter ist not even a really great one either.

Drop Amount %
Forgotten Totems (1, 2 or 5) 1,146 45.84
Ring of the Hunter +1 584 23.36
Ring of the Hunter +2 392 15.68
Ring of the Hunter +3 192 7.68
Mask of the Voodoo Witch 117 4.68
Ring of the Hunter +4 61  2.44
Ring of the Hunter +5 8 0.32
Flawless Sapphire 1,277 51.08
Aquamarine 966 38.64
Black Opal 257 10.28
Voodoo Doll 100.00
Chultan Profession Resources 100.00

Is It Worth Farming?

Overall though, I’d still recommend doing them on your mains for multiple reasons. First of all, Patrol Quests are a quick completion for Totems and can be stacked. What you want to do is pick up all the quests in Port Nyanzaru over time and then complete them once per week with the other weeklies. You don’t even need to go back to O’Tamu every time. Just finish all quests and turn them in one by one. You can pick up “Patrolling Chult” in between to get a Treasure Map every time.

Second, you have a 50% at some salvage and always get refining points. The maps and chests stack, so you can even easily keep them for Double Enchantment or Double Astral Diamond events (which will probably never happen though). And hey, if you luck out and get a legendary ring in the process, why not? At least you now have some solid data to make your own farming decision.

Meaning for Other Content?

While this data is extremely interesting in terms of legendary ring drop rates, I think it’s hard to draw conclusions for other content. From my own experience it’s certainly higher than 1 out of 312 for dungeon runs. Thinking about it, it actually makes sense that the Ring of the Hunter overall is harder to obtain per box. In the end you’ll get six chances per week and character with little to no effort.

Anyway, I was pretty pleased that someone else has interest in these types of tests and would like to thank “Rainer” for putting the effort into giving us a massive 2,500 sample for the Chultan Treasure box!

It seems that the totems from chests count against the 25 from hunts. Depending on what your priorities are, that is something to consider.

Why would you keep them for Double Enchantments? They don’t drop enchantments?

Double Enchantments includes all Enchanting Stones Module 12b and the new refining system. Cheers!
