Cryptic Bans Streamers Over Hunt Exploit; Reddit Mods Busy

The Hunt exploit continued to be the number one topic within the community over the weekend (to no one’s surprise). While players controversially discussed the impact and who should get punished, Cryptic had already started the process of banning selected accounts.

As usual the sanctions range from 3-day suspensions to perma-bans. The devs really seem to focus those that not only participated in the exploit, but did actively help spreading it on social media. We know of at least one bigger content creator that got locked permanently.

What’s certainly interesting is that the exploited rough Astral Diamond were hardly worth a ban. A million is ten days of work . At best you’re talking about a suspension. So the ban shows how serious the devs punished spreading the exploit.

*** Edit: *** Putzboy makes some valid points in the comments why the exploit might have been worse than the sum of the Salvage.

Exploiting & Monetization

Did you know that Uncensored runs the biggest Discord of Neverwinter? Come join our team, streamers and hundreds of players to talk the site and all facets of the game!

The monetization aspect is kinda weird though. I guess that streamer could give them the $5 they made? Plus, the account would still be banned if the video hadn’t been monetized, right? So why even bother? Definitely feels silly, because it’s not like anyone literally stole from the company. Following that path of logic would also eventually mean that all content creators would have to pay games, which is obviously hilarious. Influencers are assets, even if stuff like this occasionally happens. That being said though, maybe they refer to some section in their terms of service here that we’re unaware of.

The Hunt exploit also led to the a bunch of deleted threads on Reddit. People naturally wanted to talk about it while moderation naturally suppressed even mentioning the incident. You know, just a normal day over there. Now that the whole thing has been fully patched, we think it can’t hurt to allow the community to discuss the implications. But instead Reddit chose to have two ugly days.

Sub Is Not Official, but All but Official

A hilarious side note from the incident by the way: The Subreddit has added a note on the sidebar that they’re not official, because people apparently got confused. You really wonder why that might be the case… It’s not like the sub acts like an extension of Cryptic, right? Anyway the sub is not official, but all but official. It hosts official events, fully obeys the official ToS, and is listed in the ARC launcher. Again: Not sure why people get confused when they’re so “independant”.

In the wake of the drama some players opened another, unmoderated sub for the game by the way. This has been tried before, to no avail however. But in case you want a different environment to discuss the game, you should contribute there and help them grow the audience. The owner by the way contacted us whether we are ok with using our brand name for the sub, which we don’t mind. But we obviously don’t admin it and can’t help with any issues over there.

Phew, that Hunt Exploit fellas… Still dominating the news! What do you think about the bans, the state of the Subreddit, and the focus of hunting down those that helped spread the exploit? Share your thoughts on our social channels, in the comments below, or visit our message board!

I think it’s a fair deal. When you take a risk, you also need to be responsible for your act

Well, as has been demonstrated several times before, Twylabite is a complete imbecile.

But who was banned for streaming the exploit?

    MiniMi?

    Kali Copper?

I think we should be told! (Ed.)

One streamer that got banned is called “HuggyBear” or something.

The exploit exceeded the salvage value of the loot. That’s a gross oversimplification. What about those who were selling the loot drops like sister boots? Their return exceeded that of simple salvage value. How about getting your sister boots in record time, this freed people up to farm EUS instead of hunts and cards.

I do not think people should be punished for sharing exploits the focus should be on people who use exploits…. but that’s a free speech ideology

Don’t forget that you’re responsible for spreading this exploit. You’re a part of the problem.

That’s a valid opinion. Neither did we however encourage anyone to use the exploit nor are we responsible for Cryptic’s lack of acknowledgement or ability to push out a timely fix. After it had been fixed on PC it was about to spread anyway. Believing that the exploit wouldn’t have caused issues had it not been posted around here is very naive. We can debate the extent, but no “responsibility”.

I don’t think it’s a valid opinion at all. I don’t recall Unblogged mentioning the Hunt bug at all until it was in the Official Patch Notes that it had been “fixed” on PC.

Then, Cryptic announced in the Kiddie Konsole section of the Official Forum that the bug had been released in their live Ravenloft update, while simultaneously announcing that the bug’s existence had been acknowledged and that they would monitor Kiddie accounts and take appropriate action against any abusers, as per terms of service.

There are oceans of tears and entire Siberias of salt all over YouTube from whiners who quite, quite deliberately and intentionally exploited a known, announced bug for over a week, some even circumventing the “fix” that did not quite take. And all of this AFTER the fix was announced IN THE PATCH NOTES, AND they were WARNED what would happen! And yet imbeciles STILL exploited it and now weep and moan that they should not get banned!

I suppose that is to be expected from Konsole Kiddies, the bane of PC Gaming and destroyer of quality games and proper QC and bug testing. I can’t help feeling that if those under-aged morons got a proper computer and Craptrick spent ALL their time on the PC version, we’d have a lot fewer bugs and a lot more quality testing.

People even asked at the new NW_Uncensored Reddit if it was for the console version, as they all seemed to be console players, and the reply (from a moderator with PS2 next to his name) said “it’s for the PC Master Race as well”.

        So fuck ’em.

        Fuck ’em in the ear.

        😡

Ha. I thought that was weird too. … “You should know that we forgot to patch the bug out, so like we’ll get to it eventually” … then they have to take action because people used the bug.

It’s like cryptic made the decision beforehand that banning idiots would just be easier than trying to make a solid patch to begin with.

btw, notice that it took them 3 months to fix the Apocalypse set when it was debuffing the caster. 2 weeks to fix when it was over debuffing the target.

I think cryptic just wanted to piss off the high end players get a bunch of pu licity to start a new wave of people to come in. The higher up players don’t spend money anymore.. At least I don’t. I never give them a dime of my own money. I used to until I realized that nothing every gets fixed when it should and when they do fix something they break something else and none of the chars terms are balanced etc etc etc etc. They lost half the community by doing this crap.
