How Do Neverwinter Player Numbers Compare to Warframe?

Roughly two weeks ago we compared Neverwinter’s player numbers to those of Black Desert Online and concluded that it’s not looking too bad for our title against the MMO competitor. BDO however is partially pay-to-play so we were kind of comparing apples and oranges there. That’s why it’s great that free-to-play game Warframe recently turned five and released its numbers of registered accounts as well. It means we have some more data to play around with! Let’s quickly recap Cryptic’s own numbers that they’ve dished out in the past when there were certain milestones to celebrate.

Neverwinter vs. Warframe

Warframe currently has 38 million accounts after five years, which isn’t really telling us as much as we don’t have a corresponding number for Neverwinter. At their respective four year marks however, Warframe pretty accurately featured twice as many accounts as Neverwinter (30 million to 15 million). Both games are free-to-play and operate on PC, Xbox and PS4, making this a very valid comparison. You gotta admit when you’re beaten, and there’s no doubt that the devs at Digital Extremes have the edge here.

Two things though: First of all, as MassivelyOP pointed out, Warframe continues to defy expectations. It’s a surprise hit, not quite as surprising as PUBG, but still. Digital Extremes seems to really have developed a gem and based on that, being half as good might still be pretty decent. Second, we’re again doing our apples and oranges dance. Warframe is no MMO, it’s a cooperative third-person shooter with MMO elements. That genre, especially on consoles, is more popular and you would expect a game like Warframe to perform better than a game like Neverwinter.

Anyway, we do like these little comparisons and we hope you do as well. What’s your take on the numbers? Share your thoughts on our social channels, in the comments below, or visit the corresponding thread on our message board!

    You also forgot to tell couple things about Warframe

    1- Immediate Hot fixes to crashes & bugs
    2- They listen to their community
    3- They hold streams for their community discussing game development where the game community pretty much dictates the progress of the game
    4- Minimum Server maintenance only for relays – Zero Lag
    5- Graphics & Parcour constantly updated by upgrading the game engine
    6- New Weapons & Warframes introduced

    Warframe ticks all the boxes for a game that will last forever
    ==

    Neverwinter
    ==
    1- Late Fixes to Crashes & bugs my paranoid delusion is still screaming
    2- Game engine is getting older though devs say it is still powerful
    3- Instance based when it is supposed to be D&D
    4- Server in USA when huge sector of the players are European suffering from packet losses

    Code is not managed properly to the point that the devs are saying we cant disable enchantment effects
    No European Server

    Leave it to you guys if it is gonna lost or gonna fall to the abyss

      This might be valid points, but not really subject of the article. We know nothing about contents and management of Warframe, but admittedly hear nothing but good stuff.

    -Who told you that? Warframe has Plains of Eidolon (developed in 2017), with that place Warframe became the MMO, it’s open world.
