Is the Summer Bonus Rewards Promo Worth It?

The Summer Bonus Promotion has become quite a staple over recent years in Neverwinter. The promo hands out additional rewards when charging ZEN through the Arc, Steam, Sony, or Microsoft stores. This year’s bonus, among other things, features two unique mounts in the Suratuk’s Red-Dusted Axebeak and Blueforged Rage Drake. In this article I’d like to quickly review the promotion and give general advise who should be buying into it.

Rewards and Savings

First of all, this promotion is for those that are willing to charge [sc name=”zenicon”] with real money and are looking to get a little extra out of their investment. Other than other promos like the Ravenloft Expedition Pack you won’t get all or most of your value back with the items you receive. But that’s understandable, because you obviously still keep the purchased currency. So the Summer Bonus promo is simply a little extra incentive to throw your money onto the game!

Here are all the rewards and their corresponding ZEN values:

  • Tier 1 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]1000):
  • Tier 2 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]2,500):
    • VIP Voucher: [sc name=”zenicon”]1,000
  • Tier 3 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]5,000):
  • Tier 4 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]7,500):
    • Companion Voucher: [sc name=”zenicon”]2,500
  • Tier 5 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]10,000):
  • Tier 6 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]20,000):

Overall this accumulates to the following savings:

  • 500 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]1,000 (+50%)
  • 1,500 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]2,500 (+60%)
  • 1,600 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]5,000 (+32%)
  • 4,100 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]7,500 (+55%)
  • 5,100 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]10,000 (+51%)
  • 13,100 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]20,000 (+66%)

What Tier Should You Buy?

Like I mentioned you’re not getting all the value back. But on all levels the rewards add up to roughly 50% bonus ZEN, which is a nice addition. The one exception is when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]5,000, because the Axebeak as blue mount doesn’t sell for too much on the Auction House. The value of the tier 4 and 5 rewards also highly depend on whether you can actually use the items. Most seasoned players probably don’t really need an Experience Booster or any companion from the ZEN Market (the Chultan Tiger unfortunately comes in a pack and doesn’t count as companion ***UPDATE*** It’s now sold separately as companion and can be bought with the voucher). Your best option is probably buying the Chultan Tiger or a campaign pet like Stronghold’s ClericChultan Hunter, or Vistani Wanderer. Overall however the promotion is set up in a way that you get most value when charging the full [sc name=”zenicon”]20,000.

I guess there might be players that are solely looking for the novelties. In that case you should just hit the Auction House and claim the two mounts there. On PC both go for [sc name=”astralicon”]500,000 at the time of this writing. The promotion runs for two months, so the mounts should stay affordable.

Conclusion

In case you plan to charge ZEN with real money anyway, the Summer Charge Promotion presents a great way of getting more bang for your buck. I wouldn’t however just take part just for the rewards. You’ll not get equal value back and the two novelties are relatively cheap on the Auction House.

Chultan Tiger is no longer from a pack, it is listed as a companion (costs the same as the pack did)

Which makes me glad I held on to that coupon… The question now is – do I sell the tiger, or use it on my DC. :-p
