The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 26: Maturity

Welcome to a new project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

I knew there would be a time where I have to reevaluate the project and since my Lowbie recently hit the 3k threshold, it’s a good point to do so now. In my opinion the character is mature now. I have brought him through every area of the game. The campaigns are all finished, acquired most of the gear it needs, have set up the professions and can comfortably participate in all content.

It’s still missing some of the final set of companions and mounts, but that’s not major and will only take time. Jewelcrafting is at 25 although it turned out it was never needed to get 2-slot rings, Tailoring is at 20 to unlock all nine task slots and I’m even over the hump with Leadership. After virtually no felt progress in weeks I hit level 21 and suddenly everything is so easy. I easily tripled the amount of profession XP I make per day thanks to the new tasks and will be hitting level 22 today. Essentially the only area of long-term progression left is refining.

Played on Lowbie

So it’s time to look up the numbers of the project. I started the character at the end of November, 2015. Played says I needed roughly 433 hours for 3k in about 160 days. That’s slightly under three hours of game time per day, which is probably not as much as other folks are able to put into a character. Stretching the sessions a bit would set the time needed to half a year, which is still not unreasonable in my eyes. I did invest 25$ into the characters and in its later stages 20$ more to set up two supplying VIP accounts.

I will continue to play the character and occasionally report interesting stuff, because it’s actually my best shot at measuring the time needed to reach other milestones. But it’s no longer accurate to call him a Lowbie. That’s why I will start another character. Since there’s nothing to gain from simply repeating my method I’m going to treat it as pure free-2-play project, meaning I will not put any money into it.

See you the next time on Illithiel, the Devoted Cleric!

DC is a great free to play class to start, since people love them in party, and you really dont need any money/ad/IL at all to make an awesome buff/debuff machine 🙂

This has been an interesting read, and I’m curious to see how you go with the pure f2p run especially since your lowbie long ago surpassed my two chars who are only just above the 2.5k item level mark with all campaigns done. 😛

Just for reference I’ve been playing off an on since Caturday so both are done with all campaigns except the higher tyranny boons (f-ing linus). Also pure f2p, no market flipping, no vip. Small guild too which I’ve been a member of since before NWO (no boons yet, just reached level 4 guild hall). Just thought it would be a nice comparison for down the track. ^_^

    Very good job.
Enjoy the DC, but I’m not 100% sure that it doesn’t need any real $ investment.
Hope to see you in the [DC_CHANNEL]
