The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 34: Event Preparations

Lowbie Diaries BannerWelcome to a project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

This time in the diaries I’d like to talk about a general topic in character progression first. Event coverage is a vital part of our blog and I’ve also talked about them in a bigger context. Since the Thanksgiving holiday and with it Black Friday is approaching, it’s time to remind everyone to plan accordingly. These type of weekends can really mean a huge leap in progression for everyone. For different characters that can be different things. Some are hoarding and selling RP, trading in Guild Marks, waiting to spend ZEN or leveling new dummy ALTs.

Now for a lowbie like my Cleric for example, which is currently sitting at 2,200 item level, I would more looking to the Double AD event (the first ever on PC!). Do your weeklies on Thursday and try to focus on group content more than usual. I’ve still not set up a true build, so refining doesn’t make tons of sense, but the character doesn’t have the ability to build up a decent amount of RP over time anyway.

Looking into the calendar there is other upcoming stuff I already have adjusted to. Currently still grinding out Elemental Evil (probably finishing Fiery Pit this week), I unlocked Icewind Dale and the introductory quest line to be able to capitalize on the Double Currency event in two weeks. Have to say it was quite a pain doing quests in that area, but it’ll be worth it. I’m going to do the same for Underdark at a later point. It’s really nice to be able to go with the flow of the events nowadays and save a bunch of time.

In terms of professions I’m really close to get to the turning point for Leadership. When you reach level 21 the post-60 linear progression starts and some high XP tasks become available. After grinding out level 18-21 for months, things suddenly do get a lot easier. I’m also pushing Artificing to 25 for Artifact Weapons. This char won’t be doing Fangbreaker Island or Svardborg for quite some time. So settling for the old weapons is indeed a viable choice. The Burning set and AP gain might even technically be BIS for a Cleric support build anyway.

See you next time!
