The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 38: Gearing Up

Lowbie Diaries BannerWelcome to a project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

Dated but not obsolete!

As said last week I’d like to get a little bit into gearing up in this one. Not hat having touched the DC for so long hasn’t really hurt in that regard as I’ve only missed content that I don’t have the requirements for anyway (Svardborg for example). So I’m rocking Mod 7/9 Dusk  and Drowcraft, which is still more than good enough to rock solo content.

I used the AD I had to get the artifacts and artifact gear I needed. In terms of armor I plan to wait out Module 12. It’s always good to look a little bit ahead especially with these kind of “value” builds. It makes no sense to grind for armor sets right now with the changesTomb of Annihilation” is going to introduce. From the daily keys I have enough Trade Bars to instantly buy item level 460 and I’ll probably just go with Relics from Protector Seals in the other slots.

Weapon Sets

That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do for now. Besides the campaign grind (Mod 9+) my main objective is getting enough Arcane Magical Writings for a weapon set. Tomb of Annihilation is coming with a low budget option as well, but I like the Mod 11 ones. Players lately figured out that farming the small HEs is an efficient way to get the Writings and you’ll most likely be able to get a nice train going. Currently I’m aiming for five per session, which is really not a lot of extra effort over completing the daily. I personally find it easier than going for Ship HEs although as everything attached to RNG can feel a bit streaky.

These SHE farms are also a good way to make some ADs when you can’t reliably get into decent dungeon groups. The Writings sell for a nice amount and you are also piling up Seals in the process.

Summer Festival Greatness

Everybody should know by now, but make sure to do your daily Sahha Ticket-Ball. It’s just great rewards. The Silver Tickets alone can net you a significant amount of dual and triple enchants and I’d also advise to resist the orange temptation and go with the epic raffles instead. The chance to actually get something is just so much higher and it should set you up to make significant progress throughout the event.

See you next time when I’ll hopefully be able to report back from my first dungeon runs!
