The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 45: Abandon Fey Weapons for Module 13?

Lowbie Diaries BannerWelcome to a project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

The announcement of Module 13 is a good time to check back on my lowbie character. I still haven’t managed to get through the Cloaked Ascendancy campaign, or get the Artifact Weapon set. Now that we know Lost City of Omu comes with a complete new tier of weapons, it’s obviously time to assess the situation. Like I said in the last episode, I planned to run the River District until the campaign is finished and then just buy whatever I still need for the Fey set. But now I’ve ran into a situation where it might no longer make sense to grind soon-to-be-outdated gear. This is probably nothing unfamiliar to casuals. While you’re still trying to catch up, new content is already added and you constantly have to adjust to that fact.

To Fey or Not to Fey?

It’s too easy to say you should just stop the grind and get the weapons next mod however. Much depends on how new stuff can be acquired. If you just exchange one grind with another one you might not finish as well, there’s not too much to gain. Luckily some of the Module 13 weapons are indeed easy enough to acquire just by doing the campaign. While this fact would support waiting, I haven’t even started Tomb of Annihilation yet. So I would really need to go into Module 12 asap to access the Lost City of Omu at launch and get my new weapons. Looking at my rate of progression so far, this seems a little unreasonable.

Additionally the new weapons lack a great set bonus for support characters. They do feature more damage, but that’s not super important for my build. So after all I’ll probably just finish the grind and get my Fey weapons. They’re absolutely endgame viable even in Mod 13 and it’ll help ease my way into Chult. So this is actually one of the occasions where I’d vote against waiting for the new stuff.

That’s it for today. See you next time!

They new weapons are quite interesting indeed.
Seems like maybe even design choice?
For support classes there aren’t any outstanding boni outside of “outgoing healing” which obviously is uninteresting in the current meta. So maybe for the debuffs and buffers other sets can be BIS.
For DPS classes all you want from weapons is the maximum damage roll, so they absolutely need to rush to the Exalted Legendary sets from M13. One of the most popular and successful DPS is GWF which doesnt really seem to have a “definitive” best set. Maybe a buff for the HR and GF as main DPS or a chance for CWs and SWs to get in there thanks to their mini-reworks.
