Neverwinter Adds Competitive Contest of Liars to Halloween Event

We hope you didn’t just plan to casually carve out some pumpkins during this year’s Masquerade of Liars in the Protector’s Enclave! Because the devs added a brand-new competitive game mode to the yearly Halloween event that might require a little bit more attention. All we have is the official dev blog for now, but it seems that players compete within three different factions for glory, and a free reward!

By completing dailies, players add to their team’s stockpile of treats. After the event, the winning party gets a permanent illusion mask item for free. Other players can still buy it, but have to spend campaign currency or even Astral Diamonds. An additional twist: The item from the winning faction will not re-appear in future reincarnations of the event. So you get it this year or never.

New Rewards

Next to the mask items, players can also earn a new Broom Mount and Splinter Companion. The Masquerade probably adds to the events that hands out a purple mount just for showing up each day, which is great. Plus it has a nice equip bonus of +2,000 Power. The new upgraded “empowered” Illusionist’s Mask also looks promising. With Power, Recovery and Action Point Gain it should make many loadouts as secondary Artifact. The dev blog has pictures of all the new shiny stuff!

Yearly Rewards Originally an Unblogged Idea

It’s great to see some older events getting an update and some competition never hurts. We’ll see whether some of the bigger alliances will indeed treat this seriously and try to get all their members into the same faction. The rewards do look worth going for. That should help, because the Masquerade of Liars had lost traction over the years and not a lot of people were farming treats for the outdated stuff in the event store.

The idea of introducing yearly rewards to make single installments of events more meaningful by the way originated from Unblogged. We’re glad that the devs decided to add the feature to the Masquerade and will see whether they plan to do it with other events as well. Unique rewards are an easy way to add some swag, especially for longtime players. Remember when the Angel of Protection was the reward to get, because it took a full year to farm it? Now it’s no longer a trophy but a companion that’s hardly worth spending the Celestial Coins on. In five years, if the game is still around and you own the discontinued Halloween mask of 2018, it at least means you’ve been around for a while.

Jubilee Thrones Another Opportunity?

Another great opportunity to do this would be the Jubilee thrones by the way. As more are added each year it obviously gets harder to farm them all during one event, but owning a specific one doesn’t come with this little extra amount of pride and sense of achievement. Anyway, back to the Masquerade! The event starts tomorrow and we’ll make sure to update our guide as soon as possible with all the information about the “Contest of Liars”.

    Thanks!

Could you do a guide on farming this event?

And what is meant by “a permanent illusion mask item for free”?

Does that mean the artifact? The one from previous years?

Or is it a mask, as in, like a hat?

    LOL! 🙂

    Cheers!

FYI, it looks like the Toil and Trouble is the team to pick! Our Alliance will be going with it, for sure, and others will as well.

Lol. Organising a clear winner looks like an exploit to me. Are you sure I won’t get banned if I sign up for trouble.

What? Insider dealing? EVERYONE picking the same team? ROFLMAO!

I can see the final score boards now:

    Hubble Bubble: 0
    Toil & Trouble: 478,987,683

Thing is, they could prevent that with suitable coding. But they won’t, so then they could turn round and call it an exploit.

I hope Toil is the witches, because I want the hat, 🙂

    “Return of the Wailing” Event…

Come on guys, this is Neverwinter after all! I just cannot believe that the Wailing Death could be so easily cured, nor be left unchanged by the Spell Plague.

Cheers, alphastream. Some events are very easy to farm on multiple alts when you know what you are doing, but that can take some time to work out!

Do you have to replace your head with the mask that they give you at the beginning when you choose a side. Seems like you lose your power from the head if you replace it with the temporary head. Does this question make sense? Thanks.

FYI I chose the tree. Thanks.

Yes, it does mean you lose all the stats. If you read the blog post, that’s part of the challenge. For most areas, you won’t notice the difference. If you are doing Ravenloft, or another area where it’s hard for your toon, you can always swap back to your normal head item. The drop rate is so low it won’t make a huge difference.

Yeah, they gave me a Witchy-poo hat with no Utility slot and no stats and then sent me to Chult to kill stuff!

I REALLY wish we could get it as a Fashion Hat!

And thanks so much for your blog!

you dont need to go to chult wuth the mask, you can get the drops in a -7 levels area, my alliance is getting more in Sharandar and Dread ring than in any other area…

Thanks for the reply. Have a great one!!
Anyone get the drop from the piñata for the broom yet or if there’s another way to get it?

Only from Pinatas , but theres a small patch today that “should” increase the drop rate

Aye! Drop rate DOUBLED!! From 0.1 to 0.2%! 😉

The worst thing is that the Sash can apparently drop on the ground from Pinatas and be looted by people helping! Normally (Summer Festival Pinata), the high grade drops go straight to inventory, and “helpers” get only gold, food buffs etc. It’s pretty crazy for such an RNG mount event to be coded so that people can steal your drop.

I also hate the 2 minute cooldown on the Beholder Pinata and the fact the food drops are BoP. Normal Pinata can be split into stacks and each stack has its own cooldown, so you can open one every 10 to 15 seconds with a moderate dps character. And the food buffs can go in the bank or Guild Vaults!

    🙂
