Neverwinter Bundle From Bundle Stars Review: Is It Worth It?

The digital retailer Bundle Stars is currently selling a PC Neverwinter Bundle that ranges from 1.49$ to 24.99$. Depending on what you are willing to pay it includes several packs, companions and mounts. Normally we don’t do a special review of bundles or promotions, but since this contains several tiers and advertises massive savings, it makes sense to quickly look how much bang players get for their buck.

The Rewards

Please note that other than advertised the second tier indeed seems to include the Gelatinous Cube companion, not the mount!

First let’s talk about the rewards a little. What you are going to get here are mostly novelty items. The Gelatinous Cube companion, the Stormraider Horse mount and the Feywild Pack are or contain items you can’t get anywhere else. I would assume that the titles in the starter packs of the first tier are promotion exclusive as well. So you’re basically paying for uniqueness. According to the wiki the Stormraider Horse‘s lone appearance was from a promotional code in 2013. Not sure it’s actually the case, but yeah, it seems to be rare. The one exception is the Storm Rider companion, which can currently be bought from the Auction House for very few ADs. It also was a promotion exclusive item once, but I assume it made it to loot tables with the dungeon key changes.

Unfortunately the gameplay relevance is not really strong. You won’t use most of the items, much less in endgame content. It’s always great to have a pack like the Feywild one however, especially for new players. It supplies all your characters with a purple mount and companion, which is a major convenience upgrade early in the game. You might also luck out on the Trove and get a nice companion or the artifact.

Pricing

Each reward has a “normal price” attached to it that probably should hint at a major saving compared to the bundle’s one. Some of them are weird though. The official pricing for the starter packs is 2.99$ each for example. I don’t know where this is coming from because those packs are handed out in various giveaways. Like… they are normally for free! You can’t actually buy them for the three bucks anywhere.

For the value of the companions they’ve gone with the ZEN store prices I think. But like I said the Storm Rider is currently 7,000 AD on the Auction House. Which transfers to 14 ZEN or 0.14$, a far cry from the stated 7.99$. The 9.99$ for the Trove doesn’t make much sense as well. Only few included items in it are worth that much. To make matters worse, players are even reporting that they couldn’t claim the Trove. It gets even weirder at tier 3, where the Horse is priced at 34.99$. That’s as much as purple mounts on the ZEN Market and this one is green!

The only truly accurate price is for the Feywild Pack, which sells on the ZEN Market for 6,000 ZEN, or roughly 60$.

Is It Worth It?

Now, are some tiers of the bundle worth it? That certainly depends. The gameplay value of the first three tiers is not there, but if you like unique stuff, 7.49$ is not a bad deal. You might have to pay more to get these specific items in the future. The 24.99$ for the Feywild Pack meanwhile is a true a bargain. You can however get the pack for ingame currency whereas you have to spend real money on Bundle Stars.

Overall I think this makes the offer interesting for new players that planned to start with a bit of an investment anyway. Buying into the fourth tier they get a useful Feywild Pack and the other tiers along the way. This also applies to everyone who does not yet own an account-wide purple mount. The included Dawn Unicorn can hold the Wanderer’s Fortune Insignia Bonus, something that absolutely helps in the daily progression grind.

Collectors might be tempted as well, but could settle with tier 3 given that the Feywild Pack is also obtainable ingame. On the contrary, seasoned players have little to gain. The pack’s gameplay value is slim and 25 bucks are probably better invested elsewhere.

I’m quite interested in that Gelatinous Cube, I wonder if it’s account unlock or only 1?

Well the $25 package doesn’t only give you the Feywild pack but also all the sub tiers rewards. So for $25 you have the pack ($60), the unique mount and pet, some cool unique titles, and some valuable stuff (greater stone of health, scrolls of mass life (all unbound)). So overall the T4 package is a VERY good deal if you didn’t have the Feywild pack and are into unique stuff like me.
