Neverwinter Summer Festival Event Review

This review comes a little bit late, because we are currently very busy porting our Neverwinter toolbase to the new phpBB 3.1.x version. But in the good tradition of this site, we’re finally looking back at the Summer Festival.

Like I said in reviews of the Winter Festival, these two seasonal events have developed to my favorites, because their design (almost) fills everything you would expect from a good event. We talked about too much grindyness of some events in the past but the Summer Festival is not one of them. You can get pretty far by doing the dailies, in fact just getting the daily Favor. If you want everything, you gotta work for it, but free stuff for everybody is a nice incentive to log in and participate. They introduced a new mount for collectors for example that was also an upgrade for my lowbie character, who owns a 80% horse now by just doing daily Favors.

Depending on what you want you can choose from a variety of rewards and that’s how it should be. Mount, Companion, Transmutes or Fahion and there’s even some AD to make with the Sunite Garb and the new Chef set. It might not be as much as in other events, but those willing to stash away items and wait for the supply to diminish could get as much as 50k for one Fashion item. And you can profit from many ALTs by just gathering the daily Favor and buy BoE stuff for it. Have to say I’m not a huge fan of the weapon skins though. They are a fun idea, but look kinda silly unless you have more options for a true theme build.

I also always catch myself visiting the Festival for the sole purpose of doing a Water Battle or herding some Chicken. That’s unique to the Seasonals for me at least, because I hardly do Festivals due to their fun activities. But the Winter and Summer event are great exceptions to the rule and the devs really put a lot of work into them and delivered unique mechanics that you want to try out at least once. Of course, they turn into a grindy hellhole as well if you let them, but if you like me just did the daily Favors and enjoyed the rest, you should have had a pretty good time for the three weeks.

After what they’ve done to the Lliira event, there was a bit of uncertainty what they might have done to the Summer Festival, but gladly it stayed the same and delivered the same good old cooling in the heated hunt for RPs.

Did they fix the flower thieves?

I think it was in the first year that they patched the flowers to be harvestable in combat. It’s an improvement unless you’re a lowbie, in which case the kobolds will probably kill you anyway.
