New Subreddit for Buying and Selling Guilds

Buying and selling guilds is a controversial topic in Neverwinter. We’ve covered a lot of instances where guilds got sold and left behind bewildered and even shocked members. Players often feel betrayed, because while they don’t technically own the guild, they probably did contribute weeks and months of farming to Stronghold progression and the boons that come with it. And to be honest, if a leader decides to sell the guild, it’s usually a selfish decision and hence not properly communicated with members to avoid any backlash. Additionally, it’s mostly done when leaders decided to move on from the game and are at a point where they feel like they have to “cash out”. In many cases, guilds are being sold for real money, which is against Neverwinter’s terms of service. Entering this gray area obviously demands that you keep a low profile until its done.

Nwguildselling Is Born!

Now for this and many other reasons it’s fair to assume that guild selling isn’t very popular among players. Nonetheless there’s a new subreddit that serves exactly that purpose: Bringing buyers and sellers of guilds together. /r/nwguildselling/ is only a few days old, but an interesting project for many reasons. First of all it’s a spin-off from the official subreddit of the game. Dealing guilds is not entirely forbidden by the ToS, or the /r/Neverwinter rules, but folks over there apparently want to outsource the drama that comes with it. It’s still interesting that a sub that’s known to be over-restrictive in many areas gives guild selling a platform.

Second, as lovers of all data, it might give us some idea how much actual “worth” is attached to Stronghold. The first GH12 guild on PS4 for example apparently got dealt for a little over 22M ADs. So even if selling guilds is shady business, there’s at least some practical use to it. We’ll definitely monitor the sub and see whether it can establish itself over the next weeks.

Know the Risks of Doing RMTs

We by the way do not know if real money trades are allowed or only deals using ingame currency. In any case be advised that throwing your hard earned bucks at guilds comes with certain risks. Getting scammed is an obvious one, but even if the deal goes through, you might not even keep the guild as the example of Midnight Express shows. We’re not entirely sure what happened there, but apparently the game’s support handed the guild back to their original members. At least it’s not with the buyer anymore. Just be warned that this stuff can happen when you deal guilds, on /r/nwguildselling/ or wherever.

Selling guilds for in-game items or currency: okay with me, it does not go against TOS as far as I know although can be controversial for their members in a moral way.
RMT: not allowed by TOS, so better not sell a guild for money.

They need to make it so that just 1 person does not have say of the guild. There should be a group of officers at least 5 if not more from the guild to have equal say. Same should happen with all issues when it comes to kicking members or invites as the guild grows so should the amount of officers. The guild i am in level 20 has been very lucky to have good leaders and when they left game they made sure to had guild over to other members that can be trusted.

Apparently, the Guild system in Star Trek Online has those sorts of safeguards. You cannot kick more than 1 person per day, even your own Alts, and demoting/kicking leaders takes 24 hours and others can counter-vote or veto. So, unlike NW, you cannot have a situation where a single leader kicks all the other leaders and then kicks all the players from the Guild in a fit of pique. I don’t know the details as I don’t play STO, but it has some up in several threads.

If you’re a Fleet (guild) leader you *can* kick more than one lower-level member per day. The restrictions are only on R7s.

#1: Only one R7 character (not player!) can be demoted/kicked at a time.
#2: When you attempt to demote/kick an R7, a 48hr counter pops up and all other R7s are notified of this on login.
#3: The demoted/kicked R7 is locked out of all guild management functions while the counter ticks down.
#4: Any other R7 may cancel the demote/kick at any time while the timer is running.
#5: If the timer expires without being cancelled, the demote/kick happens.
#6: PROMOTING TO R7 also carries a 48hr timeout, but more than one person may be on R7 promotion timer at once. Any R7 may cancel any promotion to R7, freely.

None of those rules apply to demoting/”kicking” *yourself*. So a fleet leader may voluntarily leave, no cooldown, no delays.

The way this works is: If there’s at least *three* players at R7, no one player can steal the guild because the third can counter any attempt to demote one of the other two. If you have two R7 toons, you cannot be kicked from R7 even by all other R7s working together, because your alt can cancel the demote/kick. If a single player has all R7 positions, the guild *can* be stolen if that player’s account is compromised – they promote the thief to “provisional guild leader” then swap toons on the compromised account having each toon choose to leave the guild, leaving the pending new R7 as the only R7 – but this is avoidable by having at least two players at R7.

(All of this only applies to active players, of course. Players who’ve left the game are much easier to demote/kick because they won’t log in to stop it. There’s also a function for lower-level characters to claim R7 status if no R7 has logged in in a month.)

STO’s fleet mechanics are good and Neverwinter should implement them.

    @John
Thanks for the details. People have mentioned this on the NW Uncensored forum, but I forget the full details as I don’t play STO.

I completely agree that Neverwinter should have this system implemented. It seems much, much safer. There has been far too much drama with guilds being stolen, sold, other leaders/founders or even every single member being kicked en masse etc.

I see one HUGE flaw with this. Our current alliance structure system in Neverwinter is already very hard to manage. Many Alliances are now opting for the Helm position as a building tool for bonuses (lowered building costs). So every time an alliance needs to switch around; the lengthy process of all guilds in that alliance must demote all R7s except one (unless you want to all go for the vote process), just to get a swap process that takes under 15 minutes, provided all the leaders from each guild know what they are doing. This ‘anti-hijacking’ process and the current Alliance/Guild framework are not compatible. I have submitted ways to ease this process on the forums. I am pretty sure no one wants ideas from a Mom that doesn’t have a bachelor degree in Comp Sci. :/

@Drisiml – in STO, at least, there’s no voting on Armada (“Alliance”) joins and leaves. Any R7 can initiate a join, or a leave, unilaterally….. and then there’s a 24 hour cooldown before it takes effect, specifically to make joining and leaving an armada a significant thing.

But in STO, you also don’t have the same need to re-arrange Armadas, ever, because the rewards are reversed: “Helm Guilds” get the best XP bonus and “Gauntlet Guilds” get the best “Stronghold” building discounts. So it’s always in the best interest of the Armada to have the largest and richest and most advanced guilds at Helm.

Would be nice if we had the STO system in NW … I know how it feels to get kicked from your own guild. Happens to us a few day ago. Our Guild was sold or stolen from one of the leaders who was inactive since a year. All members include the other R7´s get kicked. It´s so annoying .. we were only 6 ppl – pushed the guild from GH5 to GH13 in only few month. Hard work and much bugs for nothing …

It´s ok to sell a empty guild but not fair to do this when there are members who spend much time and work on it

That’s a terrible thing, GeekShow, so much work and effort stolen from you.

But I thought that if the leader had not logged in for a certain time he loses Leadership and it comes up for grabs to be claimed by another member?

Is there nothing Support will do?

There´s a way to overwrite leadership from a inactive leader to another person but Support must make it. We don´t do it because nobody thought that this happens … We know each other for a long time and acutally we are not sure if it was him or if the account was hacked. It looks like this because there are only 2 stranger naked lvl 60 chars in guild.

We are in contact with Support to get our guild back … in a first reply they said that they don´t meddle into guildstuff -.- we don´t accept this answer and continue the conversation with them..

Good for you, Geek Show. Keep at it. Support always say they “prefer Guild issues to be sorted internally”, but this is not an internal issue.

The leader did not play for a year and got HACKED and exploiters kicked you. That is something for Support to fix.

You want your guild back with the old leader removed, the Strangers removed and the rest of you co-equal Leaders (as long as you know you can trust each other).

My own guild was only 5, and we were all Leader/Founders. No issues at all as we were already friends from other games. Now, I am the only one who still plays, and this is exactly the sort of reason I am reluctant to invite anyone else.

    🙁

    Good Luck.
