The October Bugfix Month Might Be the Single Best Event Ever

I originally wanted to wait with my personal review of the October Bugfix Month until everything is said and done.  But I gotta be honest, the 10-day roundup got me pretty excited so I’m going to chime in early. And what can I say, the event might actually be the single best one ever! This is probably me overreacting, but who cares. The devs simply nailed it!

The Thirst For Fixes

It’s funny that this label it applied to something completely unrelated to content design. Not a new dungeon, no new campaign, no new storyline. It’s a freaking bugfix month! I mean, shouldn’t every month in a MMO be a bugfix one? Like, bugs are an ongoing issue, so fixes should be as well.

The reality in Neverwinter however is different. If a bug isn’t significant enough, it rots, sometimes for a very long time. Granted, such issues are normally small, but a huge pile of small issues can turn into a big one eventually. Players can get the impression that the game is not properly maintained and with many issues around, everyone has something to bark about. That’s why the bugfix month is so great. Stuff indeed piled up over time and the thirst for fixes, significant or not, has definitely gone up.

Until October 22nd Neverwinter Uncensored will be hosting a social giveaway for a chance to win one of five Wizkids Promo Codes. Neverwinter and Wizkids have teamed up and included special promo codes in their exciting new figurine line, D&D Icons of the Realms: Tomb of Annihilation. If you’re not feeling like buying into the figurines, here’s your chance to get a code anyway!

Community Interaction

But the fixes themselves are only part of the story here. It’s great we’re getting so many of those, and I mean really great. But what might matter more to some is developer interaction on a daily basis. Guys coming in and giving direct feedback to players is something truly amazing. I know that can’t be the standard, and won’t after the event will be over, but it’s nice to actually witness the devs working the game every day. It also shouldn’t be understated how this direct interaction adds to the future motivation of reporting issues.

This is the time for all those theorycrafter and testers to reap the benefits of their work. They’ve spend hours to find some of those bugs and finally see them resolved. Some even said they might run out of bugs to report, which would be remarkable. I guess we’ll see about that, but for now, call me impressed. The level of participation, interaction, approval and enjoyment from all sides is just unique. So by all means, let’s do this again at some point!

It’s great that we are having a bugfix month, but this is probably the one and only one we are going to get that will be as responsive as this one.

    You: well… who cares?
Then finally you corrected them and you want to be praised… Lol?

But perhaps I have only issues with my Mother 🙂

    I think it’s something like:
Me: Mom, I did a lot of REALLY difficult advanced physics homework.
Mom: Yeah, but it sucks, and it’s full of mistakes, and can’t you do all of the homework that your 5000 teachers are asking for?

Me: Mom, I fixed a bunch of mistakes, which was even harder than doing the homework in the first place, cause every time I go back to fix mistakes I might mess up something else by accident, cause it’s really really complex stuff.
Mom: It’s about time, and there’s probably still a lot of mistakes left, and this is probably the only time you will ever fix your mistakes, and you probably only did it cause you think you’re not gonna get dessert. Which doesn’t matter cause most of the time I don’t give you dessert anyway, I just keep trying to find sneaky ways to get you to do chores without giving you dessert.

I say too: thanks devs, really nice job! 🙂
