Perfect World Entertainment Lays off up to 30 Employees

Sad news everyone! Yesterday it got more and more evident that PWE had released an unknown number of employees during the week. Perfect World later confirmed the lay-offs to Massively Overpowered.

[su_quote]This week, Perfect World Entertainment did experience a reduction in staff of under 30 employees. Perfect World employs thousands of people from all over the world and decisions like this are always difficult. However, we are incredibly grateful for the contributions of those individuals impacted and will do our best to help each of them through this transition. This reduction in workforce will not impact any of the games published by Perfect World Entertainment.[/su_quote]

Two former employees took the news to twitter and it’s important to note that the layoffs seem to affect only PWE, not Cryptic. In fact, Star Trek Online pointed out that the studio is actually actively recruiting.

It’s always hard to judge these things, because you would need to compare the layoffs to the hiring. The case of LaughingTrendy is an interesting one though. Just like Neverwinter’s Strumslinger she was assigned to other projects within PWE in November 2016 only to be released now. That’s especially unfortunate since her replacement as Star Trek Online’s Community Manager apparently survived. The STO community gathered on the Arcgames forum to bid farewell to their longtime companion. Our beckylunatic additionally dug up an interesting interview with LaughingTrendy from back in the day about her job as Community Manager.

We at Neverwinter Uncensored want to thank those affected for their work and wish all the best in the next stages of their lives!
