Perfect World Looking to Add at Least One Volunteer Moderator to Their Team

Community Manager Julia “nitocris83” announced last Monday that Cryptic Studios and Perfect World are looking to add additional volunteer moderators to their team. In the past new mods have been recruited behind the scenes based on recommendations of the current team. While this process seems to be a little more transparent, it seems unlikely that anyone will get in that has any sort of history with the mods or PWE. Like stated, they are looking to extend the team, nobody is heading out.

We are looking to recruit additional moderators to join our existing Neverwinter forum moderation team! If this is something you’ve been interested in, please look over the description and requirements posted below! If you feel you would be a good fit for this role, please send an email to community@crypticstudios.com with the subject line “Neverwinter Moderator Application” with your game account name, forum name(s), email address, and a short paragraph on why you want to be a moderator. Applications will be accepted until June 1.

Obey the ToS and RoC

Julia posted a detailed job description and requirements, but as moderator you obviously first and foremost have to enforce the rules of conduct and terms of service over there. The job can be stressful, thankless, and comes with little to no benefits. Moderators sometimes receive minor ingame gifts like mount skins, but do not get paid directly. Also be warned that mods have a history of clashing with the community over the very strict rules on the official message board they have to obey. It’s certainly not a way to make more friends and you will have to deal with us watching you 😉 !

Nonetheless extending the team and add more perspectives can be beneficial. So far members have been mostly casual / RPG oriented folks. Somebody who helps to understand certain behavior, sentiments, and reactions from an endgame / PVP point of view is definitely needed. So we’ll wait and see if and who will get added. Just don’t bring back that jerk melodywhr

Neverwinter UN:Blogged is always looking for writers to contribute to the blog. If you are an active player and search for a way to spread your opinions, analysis, diaries or reviews to more than 40,000 regular visitors, then don’t hesitate and get in touch with us on our contact page or message board! We are currently especially looking for console and PVP content, but that’s not exclusive. There is no frequency requirement, you post how often you want.

Personal i feel Mods need to stay neutral on the threads but sadly the most active mod in arc is way to opinionated. She shows favoritism and also angst toward people on the forums. Ban happy and also sends posts into the lower depths not because of ToS or RoC but because she does not agree with the post or it proves that she or one of her favorites wrong. I am sure who ever the other MoDs choose to join them will not reflect what the player base needs and will just be another reason to not waste time posting on arc forums.

adding to the team without anyone going out… this means that the existing mods are growing inactive. Leaving them in place is dangerous for the team and the incumbents because they can show up at any time and cause drama. Similar to what happens when GL’s return after a long break.

Personally I wouldn’t step anywhere near such a role. Besides having been targeted by mods myself with elicit behaviors like shadow bans and having calls for review or status updates ignored. Its a thankless job that I don’t feel you can directly contribute to the success of the game or improve its social environment. Basically you will get extra responsibility and become a dumping ground for peoples vitriol without any hope of improving the game for our friends. Obviously from my perspective I can do more for my entertainment value and for my friends with in game presence than a role like this.

I would encourage everyone to do the same, put your focus on being a good social actor in the game (with the exception of those contributing to the community through this site which I believe adds a ton of value to the community). Anyone who sees a role like forum mod as attractive is concerning to me. The idea of needing that ego buff of mod status is a huge red flag showing a lack of personal character.

I find the part about signing a non disclosure agreement strange. What is so damn important that a volunteer moderator (who is not an actual employee of PW) needs to sign one of these?

In my opinion it reeks of shady shit….which given this company’s track record and parent HQ location…..nah, I trust these people about as far as I can throw them.
