Relic Artifact Weapons Guide

Today we continue our guides of Sea of Moving Ice by previewing the new Relic Artifact Weapons. They outperform the Twisted set by a decent margin and are absolutely best-in-slot for any DPS builds. Ahead of next week’s Double Refinement event players surely ask themselves what they need to do to restore their Relics in time. But also generally the provided info should give you comprehensive information about how to acquire your new set.

Acquisition

Acquiring the Unrestored Relics is the easiest part. Just complete the storyline quests in Sea of Moving Ice. Upon defeating the final boss in the Runestead, you are granted the unrestored set (Rusted Trailblazer’s Axes).

Restoration

Relic RestorationNow the fun stuff begins. Just like the Relic Armor Set, the Relic Artifact Weapons have to be restored to be usable. Restoration requires a flurry of resources that have to be farmed in different spots.

Voninblod

Players need 50,000 Voninblod that comes from Heroic Encounters, Relic farm or the new Treasure Hunt.

Treasure Map Resources

There are four resources that drop from Treasures in the Sea of Moving Ice: Ostorian Residuum, Livewood Sap, Dubbin and Chert Waterstone. You need three of one of these for the Main and an additional two for the Off-Hand. The types vary with your class.

Fishing Resources

Another four new resources drop from Fishing. Four specific types of fish can be gutted to get them. The Ventdiver drops Naphtha, the Runechanged Nautiloid the Runechanged Ink, the Icebound Whelk the Permafrost Shell and the Myrmidon the Diluted Vitriol. Check the collection to see in which locations these fish can be farmed. For a comprehensive guide on fishing, you may browse here. The types vary with your class and you need five for the Main and three for the Off-Hand.

Reclaimed Runes

Players require 60 Reclaimed Runes for both Relic Artifact Weapons. Since three drop per day you should be good in case you haven’t missed too many days of SoMI progression since its launch. Otherwise you might not be able to get enough Runes to complete restoration before the Double Refinement event.

Dragon Turtle Moult

This is the SoMI version of Lanolin that drops from Heroic Encounters. The best way to farm these is to join a bug HE train on the map. They however also frequently drop from the Treasure Hunt.

Frozenfar Mistletoe and Evermelt Spring Water

Next to the uncommon Turtle Moult both rare resources that drop from HEs in SoMI are required. We assume the drop rate is equal to the rare resources in the other zones like the Permafrost Shell.

Artificing and Weaponsmithing

Lastly players need two of the new resources that can be crafted from max-level Artificing and Weaponsmithing, one for the Main and one for the Off-Hand. The types vary with your class. All recipes require 20 Lanolin and 10 Masterwork Resources. Artificing ones add a Permafrost Shard from Cold Run Heroics and Weaponsmithing Northern Animal Fat from Lonelywood ones.

Since the Mod 10 resources are also available at the Protector Seals vendor and Masterwork stuff is relatively cheap on the AH, this is no longer much of a pain.

Quite a list

Not lying, that’s quite a list. You not only have to farm the new activities, but also go back to the old areas to farm for the Profession recipes. The good news is, you can largely cover the all areas with just the Treasure Hunt. It’ll not only net you Voninblod and the Treasure Map Resources, but also Dragon Turtle Moult, Lanolin and in rare cases the fishes that can be gutted. So Fishing for Bottles is a solid way to start off your farm and go from there. You should also aim for Rank IV fish, because it could be one of the valuable ones, and skip the rest.

*** UPDATE *** Starting with Module 12b and the new refining system, the next paragraph is no longer up-to-date. The mentioned refining stones will no longer grant nearly as many RPs as they used to for the Relic Weapons.

Even if you have Treasure Map Resources covered, proceed with Fishing because it’s also the fastest way to get the needed refining points. Aim for 5,000,000 RP from the BtA Relic stones. This amount is enough to instantly refine both Relic Artifact Weapons to legendary. Much less in needed when you plan feeding your old ones into them. You’ll quickly build up Shimmering Hill Emeralds and those rough Diamonds. The Rough Amethyst should be easy to restore to the Lustrous Cloud Amethyst because you should easily be able to pile up more Treasure Map Resources than you need for the Relic Artifact Weapons.

Heroics after Treasure Hunt

Heroic Encounter FarmAfter the Treasure Hunt it’s time to assess the situation. You’ll probably still need stuff from the Heroics so that would be the logical next step. It’s up to you whether you absolutely go berserk with them though. RNG can be brutal and especially the rare resources you need from Cold Run, Lonelywood and Sea of Moving Ice can be hard to get. If you have covered RP with the new Relic-specific stones you should have a nice overflow of Black Opals and other unbound Gemfood. Sell them and get what you need. This also applies to the Rank IV fish. It’s unlikely that you still need Voninblod after the Treasure Hunt and Heroics, but the best way to farm is still Relics in Bryn Shander.

Now all that’s left is getting the Reagents you need from Artificing and Weaponsmithing. You either do it yourself or ask a guildmate or flip the required resources and a few extra AD for the Reagents on the AH. Fortunately the Masterwork Resources aren’t too expensive, because the devs purposely picked the least valuable ones.

Marks from Svardborg

Svardborg EnvironmentWith that, you should soon be the proud owner of the Relic Artifact Weapons. Unfortunately that’s not the end of the road. Even though you have restored your Weapons and can stuff them with sufficient RP, you still need the new Marks from the Svardborg Trial to upgrade them.

Especially the drop rate of legendary ones can be brutal. That’s why in some cases it might be clever to leave the off-hand piece at epic. You’ll need a sizeable amount of runs, and keys, to gather the required 30 marks for both pieces, but at least the purple ones are relatively easy to get.

I am playing the game since beta and it used to be a bunch of fun, main reason for that is the combat system, which is so versatile. But with that new grindfest they started to implement with mod 10 and even more with the newest iteration, it’s way too much. There was always a certain amount of grind, it’s part of the game, but u have to see the light at the end of the tunnel otherwise motivation will vanish in no time. And with those new bis artifact weapons it’s certainly beyond the point of a healthy game design.

People complain about blood farm? i farmed 30k vonin in less than 2 hours lul. As for the wep sets yes you actually have to run some of the games content to up them and cant just spend the AD you’ve had stacked up for the last 3 mods to boost yourself. Conclusion. . . this is probably the best thing cryptic has done since mod 7.

If you have no life, this could be a good way to spend your time. Fortunately, I have one. So, thanks cryptic for all fun I had from the good beta days till now…but it’s time to say goodbye.

Too much grind for so little rewards ….and now? They start taking away the little things that made this painfully frustrating repetative bag of shit only just bearable…im done fuck this game and those penny pinching fuck tards behind it.

Hahaha people are so angry because they actually have to grind. I have a job too and a life, I do what I can without getting butt hurt about a mechanic which is in all MMORPG and I actually think they are quite generous with this grind; I’ve had 80% of the grind done because of fishing. Chill your beans people and before you start assuming I am free to play; not a penny spent on them.

6 hours on the sea of ice on a Saturday wastes. Got 1 scale.

The lag during the turtle fight was sucking. If i wanted to waste my life this would be a great game…. no wait I would go back to another PC MMO. Better graphics less lag and better drip rates.
