Seal Nerfs Not the Only Ones Introduced with Latest Patch (Nightmare Weapons, Barovian Vigil)

We’re a little late to the party here, but nonetheless wanted to report some more nerfs that were introduced in the latest Neverwinter patch last week. You probably already know about the River District Heroic Encounter reward changes, but that unfortunately wasn’t the only change that negatively impacted players.

Transmute Nightmare Weapons Now Cost 65 Trade Bars

One of the major sources of incomes, or at least one of the better ways of turning Trade Bars into AD was to buy Nightmare Weapons from the store. They were unbound and only five Trade Bars. You could either sell them on the Auction House or salvage them. This is now ancient history because the price for the weapons was raised considerably to 65 Trade Bars. Once again the devs do not mess around with fine-tuning but just destroy this method of making AD off the weapons. They are now one of the worse buys. It didn’t help that the change was initially not mentioned in the patch notes.

So how should you invest your Trade Bars in now? Our Currency Converter is here to help out, at least on PC. It currently lists the dyes as best value, but the market will probably need some time to adjust to the changes. Trade Bars as a whole are getting devalued because players that bought Nightmare Weapons so far will go for other stuff, upping the supply, and decreasing the value of the other items.

The Barovian Vigil Daily Is Now Way Harder to Complete

The other change players are struggling with is the one to the Barovian Vigil daily in Ravenloft. At least that was mentioned in the patch notes, right? Anyway, the quest (and the corresponding ones in Soshenstar River and Omu) were bugged and you gained credit for other players completing quests. That however masked the fact that the quest otherwise is a pure pain to complete, at least on a daily basis. If you’re running your weeklies, HEs, and some more daily quests, you should be getting there. But doing the Vigil each day is pretty much no longer possible unless you’re into sadomasochism or something. This effectively makes the Barovian Vigil a weekly for most players.

they cut off one by one the methods of earning AD, I wonder how and when it will affect the economics of NW

Let’s be honest – 50 seals for the small HEs was WAY too much. It’s not a nerf, it’s actual balance. Yes, it was nice to get fast, easy seals, but the reward was too large for what you did… Ditto the Barovian daily – you should actually need to do more than sit at the campfire to do the quest. It’s not terrible to complete – do a couple quests, a couple HEs, and it goes fine.

The trade bars, though… that hurts. A lot. Hopefully, the devs will readjust the nightmare gear down in price a bit

If you pace yourself, you can get 2 easy Vigils a week, not just one. Just stop running/turning in quests when you complete the Vigil. Return the next day and cap. Even subtracting out the 25 omens from Siege, you should easily get the second Vigil before you cap omens, unless perhaps you are relying on hunts.

I agree the small HEs @ 50 was too much, but 10 is too little IMO. I think it should have been 20.

As for the daily mission in Chult and Barovia, others completion impacting yours was stupid. The problem, more for Chult, is that not all the quests count. I just did all the weeklies for Chult / Soshenstar and on some toons, didn’t get the Daily done. It’s quite frankly stupid. If I can get 150 out of my weekly 175 totems in 1.5 hours, but not get the daily done; something is broken in the design.

One more, less obvious on is the removal of the AD strongbox from the summer event (last year it was in there). Sneaky removal (they *only* thing changed from the event).

@Rainer Wolf – don’t forget the removal of AD strongboxes from DF – we can’t be bothered to add a modern reward to DF, oh, no, but we can take out something useful!

This, to me, seems in line with the devs drive to reduce the total amount of AD in the market. Between trying to provide AD sinks for the whales (a la the new Knox comp in the AH) to reducing some of the ways to make AD. 3 different AD source nerfs have been noted in this post alone, I predict this will continue and expect to see another major change in the AD economy in the upcoming Waterdeep module. For myself, it’s probabky moot as I doubt I’ll be playing this game by the time Mod 15 drops.

My fear is, it’ll only affect people at the low end just starting out or trying to catch up, and not on the high end. If youre at or nearing endgame, and you can basically print AD by farming TONG/Cradle, do you care about any of these changes? But for anyone who isn’t there yet, it’s going to feel like they’re getting squeezed on all sides.

Thankfully with all the IL500 gear being dropped in their laps, it won’t be too bad gear-wise.

it certainly doesn’t impact people just starting out the are probably in the best position they’ve been in since the game started. Enchants are cheap, BIS get is a relatively easy farm again with the exception of the demo set, getting into a guild with good boons is easy and free, never has it been so easy to get to a capable ilvl (14k+). A new player by definition would have less than four characters so hitting the daily AD cap isn’t an issue.

The recent changes are target toward alt farmers, a depreciation on tbars is targeting toward the VIP farmers. Each change has an audience and new players are not that audience.
