Senior Designer Amenar Leaves Cryptic

In a forum post yesterday Senior Designer Chris “Amenar” Matz announced his departure from Cryptic. He worked in several roles and on several games for the studio and most recently was responsible for the class changes of the Hunter Ranger, Scourge Warlock and Guardian Fighter.

Cryptic can’t seem to get stability in terms of balancing. In December Chris Meyer, designer of the Paladin class and the level 70 class balance, left the building and eight months later his successor is gone as well.

Feedback threads closed, job done!

It might feel weird for some that the guy in charge leaves only days before his changes go live. But the devs closed the feedback threads recently and at this point players can’t expect major changes anyway. Days before the official release of Storm Kings Thunder the job is done.

We at Neverwinter Uncensored wish Chris best of luck for his future endeavors! Thanks for your time spend on the game and within the community!

Oh, sad to hear that. Amenar did awesome job both in-game and to reach community. I hope to see more devs like that.

Amenar TRIED to do some awesome job, i’d say. Even better to put it like “tried to try”. However, it was obviously failure (from the beginning). Why? – Because, if you plan to do some changes and you have no exp inner testers (who are competent enough to do their job nicely despite of mainly bypassing community feedback), you should bring up “class advocates” (yes, you should invest some time to find and gather the worthy players and then you should read their proposals, sort them, determine which ones are possible to implement, and which ones are not, etc). Then you implement the changes, look on how much do other classes QQ about those changes and balance em.
