Siege of Neverwinter Event Guide

In this guide we are going tackle the reoccurring “Siege of Neverwinter” event. The Cult of the Dragon occasionally rallies its forces, attacking the city. And it doesn’t look like they’ll ever learn! So adventurers are tasked to repel the threat on the battlefield and earn some rewards in the process.

The Siege Battlefield

Pretty much everything the event has to offer takes place on the Siege Battlefield map. It can be accessed through the overworld map by all characters that are at least level 6. Just like Call-to-Arms everyone is scaled to level 60. Other than most events however, the Siege of Neverwinter lasts for two full weeks and is low on dailies. There is pretty much only one repeatable quest (two if you are in a guild), but if you want you can farm a lot more. Another unique element is that quests grant Tyranny of Dragons currency, making it possible to progress in the campaign while doing the event.

Defense Supplies

Some tasks grant Defense Supplies, an item that can be exchanged for event currency at the Defense Supply Master in Protector’s Enclave. Supplies can be exchanged in amounts of one, six and twelve. It’s worth noting that the exchange rates are not truly progressive. While it makes sense to simply exchange twelve supplies most of the time, you’ll get as much Medal of Heroism when trading in six and actually more Dragon Cult Insignia by exchanging one. So the best amount to choose depends on what you’re looking for.

Players can earn five Defense Supplies in their Strongholds by completing the daily quest “Send Aid to Neverwinter“. Sometimes locating the guards around the Stronghold can be a pain. This reddit post has a description of the locations, but you can also always just drop and accept it again. You might get another set of guards. Since supplies are unbound, you can also buy (or sell) them on the Auction House as well.

Siege Defense Effort

Supplies also rarely drop from the Heroic Encounters in the zone, but the best way to amass them is the event profession. You can buy some resources for Gold, which means you craft as many Defense Supplies as you need. In Module 14, the Profession itself rewards the necessary special asset Pushcart, higher qualities can be bought in the event store (Cart) or rarely drop from the Heroic Encounters (Large Cart). In Module 15’s Workshop system, you can use any asset for the tasks. Farming Professions is probably the most convenient and efficient way of getting a large number of supplies, but it’s your choice how serious you want to get. If you have a couple unused alternate characters floating around however, it can’t hurt to let them work the event Siege Defense Effort.

Currencies

  • Dragon Cult Insignia: Exchanging Defense Supplies nets two different currencies. The first one is Dragon Cult Insignias, which also drop from each Heroic Encounter on the event map. If you’re only looking for the Insignias, the best way to exchange your Supplies is one by one. It nets more Insignias than exchanging amounts of six or twelve. In most cases that won’t be the case however since the rewards you can buy for the currency are mostly underwhelming or outdated. There are unique Dyes, Fashion and the Champion’s Battle Horn, but make sure to check the AH. The items might be too cheap to go into full grind mode here.
  • Quartermaster’s Enchantment, Rank 5: The one thing players are mostly interested in is the Quartermaster’s Enchantment, Rank 5, which costs 60 Insignias. It’s a multi-purpose utility enchantment that everyone should slot. It drops bags that can either be donated to the Stronghold Coffer or opened for Refining Points. It also has a special functionality, so make sure to read this episode of the Bag of Tricks explaining it.
  • Medal of Heroism: The other currency that you get from exchanging Defense Supplies is the Medal of Heroism. Several packs can be bought for it in the event store. The Neverwintan Defender’s Pack features unique companions, but most of them should be relatively cheap on the Auction House. And none of them is a must-have by any stretch. The Battlefield Scavenger’s Pack can be interesting though. First of all it has a chance to drop the aforementioned Quartermaster, but also the Writ of Commendation, the third even currency.
  • Writ of Commendation: A Writ does not only come from the Scavenger’s Pack, but also from completing the daily quest “The Siege of Neverwinter” on the event map. Arguably the best rewards are available for the Writs. Next to some Dragon Cult Insignias and a second event-specific fashion set, the Neverwinter Champion’s Charger can be bought for 10 Writs and both the Champion’s Banner and Siegebreaker Griffon for 14. This makes the Siege of Neverwinter one of only two events where you can get a purple mount just for completing the dailies. The griffon can hold the Wanderer’s Fortune Insignia Bonus, making it a great mount for all characters. On top of that the banner is a viable support artifact.

The event lasts two weeks, which sets the amount of guaranteed Writs to 15. So it’s an either or unless you grind out a substantial amount of Defense Supplies and Medal of Heroism for the Scavenger Packs.

Time-Limited Rewards

Since Module 15 the devs have experimented with rewards that are only available for a limited time, some even only during a single instance of an event. It’s an attempt to raise the relevance and get players to participate in otherwise outdated formats. Through 2018 and 2019, the Siege event features an extra Mount, Banner Artifact and Battle Horn that binds to characters and only drops from the Heroic Encounters of the map. All of the items are serviceable and it can’t hurt to grab them. It doesn’t take a lot of time to farm the rewards, but you’ll obviously have to slay a dragon or two.

Stronghold Voucher Farm

Mobs on the event map come with another very valuable and unique drop: Stronghold Vouchers. The Siege of Neverwinter is the only event where you can farm guild progression uncapped. The vouchers’ drop rate has been nerfed in the past, but it’s still very reasonable. Farming the map should land you a significant amount over time.

What you want to do is search for a low populated instance. The more mobs you slay, the better. Some people prefer the “Cult Assault” and “Cult Invasion” heroics, because you can stand in one spot and await the spawning waves of enemies. I personally however feel that you are competing with too many other players and normally choose to grind the rest of the map while everyone else is zerging the heroics. Some peeps do also try no not kill the invasion leader because it keeps the spawning alive. Most of the time it unfortunately doesn’t last too long as unaware players, or those that want to complete the daily quest, will eventually kill it.

Conclusion

Overall the Siege of Neverwinter is one of the better events thanks to its unique rewards. A purple mount for just completing daily quests is superb, and the Quartermaster a great utility enchantment. Additionally guild leaders should encourage their members to spent some time grinding the map. The vouchers are a substantial help and it’s a win-win as players obviously amass Guild Marks in the process.

It’s not surprising the event is always welcomed alongside the Sword Coast. So let’s hope the Cult of the Dragon will continue to bang their heads against Neverwinter walls!

You kinda forgot about summer festival. It is possible to get purple mount just by visiting zone daily 🙂

“If you’re only looking for the Insignias, the best way to exchange your Supplies is one by one.” – This is not true! One by one only grants 3 Insignia’s – the quest itself doesn’t give anything (even though it says it does)…

Does the battlehorn buff stack with other item buffs like let’s say, the chain of scales?

I just want to point out how easy the stronghold “Send Aid to Neverwinter” quest is. There are only two patterns for the guards that are active.
If the guard near the Master of Coins is active, then most of the guards will be near the front section of the stronghold. Otherwise most of the guards will be near the back section of the stronghold. … You can easily memorize the two patterns and blow through that quest in a few seconds. The placements are always the same. It’s pretty easy to burn through that quest on all your toons.
The only problem you might run into is that sometimes one of the last guards will not show a bubble above his head. If you know the pattern, you can click on him anyway and finish the quest quickly.
