In our first post of the Summer Festival review we dealt with the Sahha game yesterday. Today we’re going to switch to the event as a whole and look how it compares to the other big annuals.
Fun and Picturesque
Let’s start with the stuff that didn’t change. The Summer Festival event location and it’s challenges are always fun. The map itself is well designed and I’m looking forward to visit it each year. In earlier reviews I recommended leaving the area open even after the festivities, but right now I think it might take away from that anticipation.
Although the mini events are technically part of the reward structure, I think they should be seen as fun-first activities. It doesn’t really make sense to farm them. The rewards however are nicely set up. You have login rewards and a true grind mechanic in picking flowers. The stuff you can get for Petals is not really worth gunning for, but I like the general structure here. Players should be able to invest more time for more rewards.
The newly introduced mechanic this year was the Sahha Ticket-Ball. Compared to the Jubilee and Winter Festival it is slightly less attractive in my eyes. The Winter Gifts, even in big numbers, is an easy and quick share and Bountys could be indefinitely farmed. The balls were limited to one per day and took a considerable amount of time to exchange. So I personally weren’t able to bring as much characters through the event as I’d hoped to. It’s more of a disappointing feeling though. I don’t think the Summer Festival is less rewarding than others. It’s just a different way of limiting the farmers.
A lot of players actually raged about the randomness of the raffles and that they didn’t get anything from the event. But taking a closer look it’s actually hard to not make a few ADs off the Festival. Toons that did the daily ball should have been able to get to 320 Copper Tickets for the fashion, which currently sells upwards 200,000 AD and should rise in the coming weeks when the supply is going to dry out. Add 200 Silver Tickets, which the patient can invest into Influence Strongboxes and the ones looking for a more instant gain into Enchantments worth roughly 300,000 AD. Even missing out on approximately 30 Mithrals and not including any other stuff from Petals we’re talking about an income of half a million per character over the event. That’s not bad.
Six Characters, 10 Million AD
I personally did six characters, got three Artifacts and one epic Mount from the raffles as well as about 60 Strongboxes and as many Enchantments. Plus a full set of Body Paints and South Sea fashion. Over time I think I might be able to sell that stuff for up to 10,000,000 AD. Not sure whether I was particularly lucky with the raffle, but it’s on par with what others are reporting.
The ball mechanic was slightly annoying, but that didn’t make the Summer Festival less rewarding. Everyone doing the Ticket-Balls should have been able to make a few ADs with the tickets. Overall the Summer Festival feels like one of the more complete events with a nice balance between fun, atmosphere and progression. And it’s not only because it’s one of the older events around, the devs hit the mark right from the start. I’d still rank it a little below the Winter Festival, bit it’s considerably better than the Jubilee.
