The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 17: Tiamat Loot Luck And Epic Demogorgon

Welcome to a new project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

 Lowbie New Tiamat Bag
New super cool bag!

A few weeks ago I said that I am mixing in Tiamat a bit more frequently and it paid off rather soon as I got my first Dragon Cult Pack to drop. It was a major sigh of relief because I’m still having severe bag space issues and in the midst of character progression when you don’t know where to spend your AD first, it’s really hard to buy into more bank slots and stuff. I first thought about adding 200k AD and upgrade it to a Runic, but refrained from doing so for the same reasons.

Next to Tiamat I currently run a mix of VT, eLOL, eTOS and Demogorgon. It’s still hard to consistently get into T2 groups, because most want 3k speedruns, but that would pretty much be only a small salvage upgrade, so it’s not as big of a deal. VT for the Valindra Artifact of course and eLOL because it’s the best dungeon to farm. I have taken a step back from the Underdark skirmishes though. In the early days I was absolutely fond of them, because they are a great source of Seals for low level characters, but nowadays when the main purpose of skirmishes is salvage and the daily AD, they simply take too long. The main culprit is Prophecy of Madness here, because its first two phases can take as long as 10 minutes each. The only thing they have going for them is that keys are comparably easy to obtain and that I still need Dwarven Spelunking.

I also switched from the normal Demogorgon to the epic version. I did it in anticipation of the change of +4 rings that will feature two slots starting tomorrow and I want to intensify my efforts to get them. More enchantment slots are a great way to get over that 3k hump. While the first run in epic Demo was an effing pain, I have to say I’m surprised how smooth you can pug it. Maybe that’s me gaining more experience in the fight with the char (and dying way less) or groups generally have gotten smarter over time. Normally there’s enough DPS to complete the purple portals in phase one and Demogorgon in three, so it’s basically about not messing up Goristro. I don’t always get Gold, but I have yet to experience a true fail over the course of the last week. I think that’s pretty decent for pugging into the fight at 2,562 item level.

See you next week!

Hey! You have advertised Epic Demogorgon for low geared people, and I think you should take responsibility for it (a lot of low-geared started to come and spoil the run) 😉

Please write article for newbies with the following items:
    0. come in drowcraft armor (at least 3 pieces for set bonuses)
    1. on first phase, only only very big purple tears
    2. on second phase, launch boss only to yellow seals, if there is a rist black better miss
    3. on last phase wait until boss is lured to middle by ranged or tanks (do not lock it in far corners with aggro)

Compared with week ago, I have much harder luck on eDemo. Mostly because clueless newbies come that make all possible mistakes. Even if party DPS is good, it could not compensate for some mistakes like healing the boss on the second phase.
