The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 19: Professions, Companion And Mount Goals

Welcome to a new project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

On the lowbie I have mostly been leveling Leadership so far and am up to 17. I am at that point where every level feels like an accomplishment, because you’re only getting one every now and then. I have seven slots and only use War Games Training because everything else feels like a waste. With the remaining slots I level Jewelcrafting solely through the gather tasks (normal ones when I’m online and the deep/mass ones at the end of the session and whenever I log onto the gateway) and have recently passed Leadership.

I plan to max Jewelcrafting first for double Rings, then Leadership and then a third profession (probably Tailoring) for max slots. Currently I could use the RPs and chests from Leadership more than the Rings, but it simply makes no sense to wait until Leadership is finished. After stripping all AD from the profession I don’t even think it’s necessary to make it such a grind, because the rewards don’t fit the extra effort any longer. On the bright side it has gotten really easy to get to at least seven slots. The latest Master Pack has enabled everyone to get the assets needed for the 100% speed boost and a Rank 3 result really cheap.

I also pondered about the Active Companion and Mount Stable for the character. Going over two30’s Insignia Bonus Tool, Wanderer’s Fortune and Gladiator’s Guile is an absolute must.  I’m still not sure those can stack, but I might aim for a bit variety with Barbarian’s Revelry, Artificer’s Persuasion and Magistrate’s Patience anyway. That’s a solid mix of heals for yourself, the party and Stamina/Movement utility. Other powers boost stats, which is not really a focal point on this one. The mounts that can grant these bonuses either come from lockboxes or the ZEN/Trade Bar market, which is not the worst setup. You have the option to luck out or gradually get there.

For Companions I absolutely would love to get a hand on the Bear Cub, which not only increases Lifesteal itself, but also can equip the Chomps gear, which fits the character theme quite nicely. It will take a while to get those Trade Bars though. The rest of the companions were an easy choice. Battlefield Medic and Shaman for increased healing and the Cantankerous Mage as well as Wisp for Control purposes. Since the first two are on the AH for reasonable prices and the latter two on the ZEN market, it’s a matter of time and also nice that two of them don’t have to be upgraded.

See you next week!
