The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 3: To Kessell Or Not To Kessell

Lowbie Diaries Logo

Welcome to a new project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel having only the stuff you actually farm and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for T1/T2 and where do you get all the RPs from? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

*** UPDATE: Additional comments that developed from a lively discussion about the direction and goals of the project as well as the general approach can be found here. ***

They should really fix that Arcane Reservoir scales with group size. You get little to no benefit in running with a group and it’s definitely not working as intended that way. It’s a reoccurring problem that has already been fixed multiple times.
Was still riding a 110% mount and switched to a 50% one.

My initial evaluation about Kessell’s Retreat might have been premature, because today’s PUG was a disaster. I left the group after we had wiped more than five times on trash. Finished the Avia Landing Vigilance Tasks. 32 more to go.
Bought two Bonding Runestones because I can’t see me getting an Augment anytime soon, so let’s see how that goes.

I was definitely wrong about Kessell. I need to be carried big time, frustrating!
The best thing about the lowbie life most certainly is that you don’t ever run out of stuff to do. I try to get a set of Vigilance Quests in as well as a Dragon run and the daily dungeon and then pick one of the campaign areas. It’s nice to be able to mix it up since you can’t do everything anyway.

I courageously keep queueing for KR, but it’s pretty hopeless. I’m getting kicked most of the time and if not the group isn’t good enough to even get past trash. If you need T1 gear to finish T1 content then the progression is simply broken…

Too bad they postponed the latest update, because the amount of injected RP and the Armor Sets for campaign currency are huge for chars like this. To make matters worse, people are one-shotting Heralds left and right, so those became less rewarding as well. I went for a change and started to unlock more Vigilance areas. I’m planning to circle them every day and hope for Unified Elements or Elemental Aggregates here and there. The AD income from them would be great.

Week ended on a high note, because I finished my second Kessell run. Was a traditional party setup with tank, DC and only one geared DPS. I have 40 Seal of the Elements now.

So long!

The one shot heralds is making it very hard to get Great Success. Some of the people are doing it right though, they sit back until everyone beats it down to about 85% health, then they crush it. So people get some rewards.

I’m a casual player myself, a week into the game, already lv70 without any guide. I’ve been following from vol 1 and I don’t even know most what I read here: Arcane Reservoir, Kessel, PUG, Dragon Run, etc.
Can I talk to you in game? Perhaps asking some questions as well if you dont mind?

Bear in mind, this is entirely subject to what class you try to do it with. I tried with CW and heal OP, with CW, it was similar to what it was like above but with OP, people are very hesitant to kick you from groups and so you can get through. I suspect the same is true for faithful DC. When I did it with both classes I did not use anything from my other chars, including class artifacts that I have unlocked.
