Unblogged Wisdom Checks: Could We Have Overreacted to Legendary Rings After All?
Legendary rings in Neverwinter are indeed a legend to most players. We know they exist, but some of us probably do not own a single one. Introduced in Underdark back in the day, these shiny orange toys quickly became a point of contention. First of all because the RNG was horrendous, and second of all because some were simply trash. The frustration of finally getting a legendary ring and then realizing that you’ve pulled a Ring of Charging Bull +5 is something nobody should ever go through.
But hey, Module 8 is long gone and we’ve kinda moved on from legendary rings anyway. Today they still exist, but despite being technically “bis”, it’s not as much of a trophy any longer. Having a decked out orange character looks nice, but the gameplay advantage is no longer there. That’s actually the case since a few mods, but Mod 12/13 really helped here because now everyone can get double off/def slots, which used to be the main advantage of legendary rings.
The system was for sure flawed, but in hindsight gear progression quickly made them that much less valuable. It sure feels like they never were a decisive factor in PVE or PVP. Which leads to our weekly poll: Could we have overreacted to legendary rings after all? Were they ever mandatory, or worth grinding for? Or was it a clear case of not climbing the bis mountain for a mod or two and then get the same value for much less work a little later?

I have the +5 Brutal, TWO +5 Stealth ones (my GF just got another recently) and half a bank full of +4.
Anything less than +4 I salvaged and when I have more than 2 or 3 +4 I salvage those as well.
I don’t have +4 or +5 Sudden Defence/Lifesteal Etc as I don’t spam CN as much as I should. I do have the +4 Sudden Deflect that I was using on a GF recently.
I have so many +4 as >95% of the time for about a year in ToTDG and PoM I pressed:

But are these worth using now?
A +4 Primal has a higher Item level and with a +5 Underdark ring the buff lasts 10 out of every 30 sec, but it is a +4000 buff.
I’d like some more double DEF slots for my GF Tank builds, as they can do RIQs fine as dps, but need to use a good Tank loadout for FBI and Svadborg, with alot more DEF and Deft.
MSP they can do OK as Conqueror once past that big bunch of mobs near the start..
Ring of Sudden Defence +5 – does that have 2 OFF slots or two DEF slots? I have the +4 Rising Defence.

That Ring of Charging Bull +5 would be tragic to drop for a CW! Like, they REALLY need to generate Threat!
But IF it had 2 DEF slots, I might try it on my GF Protector/Tactician Ultra-Tank loadouts.

they’re account bound so its not bad to drop a charging bull on a CW as long as they have an alt to give it to.
Ive found charging bull +5 to be a nice extra for my pally. The extra threat is good in situations to pull mobs off of another tank, or defender pet. Most often I don’t have to worry about threat at all, but the few times I do that ring makes it easy.

No, carefully thought and genuine opinion about cuntarino. I don’t envy his wheelchair at all. Trashtalking that piece of garbage is acceptable in comments but make wit and factual remarks in spotlight articles is not. All right, I’ll bite once more and then call it. As stated on the Discord it wasn’t something we were comfortable with, but unfortunately the amount of control our content creators have over their spotlights was not properly discussed in advance. The alternative would have been to remove the full post. This would have led to no spotlight and no comments so we’ve taken the lesser evil and went with just no comments instead.
“Become like PWE/Cryptic”? Sigh. Aren’t you actually aligning with their flawed philosophy in singling out an isolated case and ignoring the bigger context? We’re really sorry for whatever happened between members of a particular guild, but it’s not something we as site can solve. Part of Uncensored always has been to not jump to conclusions based on a “he said, she said” basis, which is exactly why we’re not taking sides here as well. Admittedly this approach also normally includes allowing free talk on a topic so everyone can judge on their own. We failed in that regard in this single instance.

There must have been a shit ton of harsh comments and senseless bashing to reach to the point where you deleted/removed ALL comments, which given the time elapsed between my last comment and the removal I highly doubt it – even without considering that fact, actually. You could have had moderated only the comments you judged too bashy.
I have not seen anything too spicy that justifies by your house standards this measure (really nothing bad was said), therefore nothing will make me chance the opinion this was discriminatory action and a very lame excuse that you expect me to swallow. You actually made several posts and some articles about drama between guilds/players way worse than what was referred to in that spotlight article. But whatever, I’m calling it out too. You just can’t censorship posts like this and think you would not have any violent reactions with pitchforks and blood and heads rolling.

Waste of time, never farmed for those legendarys. No need to max out anything. When a mod comes around, get what you can with RNG and complete the campaign then youre done, next!

they should use legendary currency instead like in various MMOs.
