Unblogged Wisdom Checks: Do the New Random Queue Categories Offer a Better Overall Experience?

Ravenloft reorganized the random queues so that all dungeons of a category now feature roughly the same difficulty. While that makes the new random queues feel more logical now in terms of included content, there are still a lot of threads complaining about failed runs and just an overall bad experience. New players still get matched in the leveling queue with level 70 players and have a hard time keeping up, or knowing what’s going on. And the “Advanced Queue” seems to follow in the footsteps of the former “Random Epic Dungeon” in that most true pickup groups are unable to complete the content. Or they are at least unwilling to genuinely attempt it after a first wipe.

So has the overall experience improved, or even decreased? Or is about the same for you? Console players of course weren’t able to experience Ravenloft yet. So you guys just have to vote based on your assumptions and gut feeling!

The problem with Random Advanced is that SVA/mSVA are bugged and give you the Daily Random reward for *failing*, as long as you wait out the timer. So you get people not even bothering to try FBI/MSP because what they really want to do is quit and get into SVA, so they can AFK, fail, and get paid in full.

Random: Leveling is mostly like the old Random Queue, so it’s a wash (it occasionally serves up IG — which I despise — but so did the old random skirmish).

Random: Advanced has the same problems with FBI/mSP as the old Random Epic did (people bailing etc) but with fewer queues in the rotation it happens way more often. Also, there’s no margin for error anymore: before if you had a weaker team there was still a chance you’d get dropped into VT/eTOS or whatever, but now you MUST have a team that can beat FBI/mSP/SVA, so forget pugging it unless you enjoy suffering and time-wasting.

Random: Intermediate would be a winner, except they stupidly mixed skirmishes (which have no team composition reqs) with dungeons (with their 3dps/1tank/1heal), so a DPS like me who doesn’t have the time to put together a perfect premade every day sees an endless slog of Throne/Throne/Throne/PoM/PoM/PoM/MPF/MPF/MPF until I’m sick of all of them and just stop running randoms.

Having said all of that, I guess if you run with a premade team of the right composition, it can be better, but for someone like me, meh.

RAQ gives you a shot at demo/edmeo which is way easier. Even SVA/MSVA is way easier to pug than fbi/msp.

the not gating everyone behind msp/fbi unlocks is a real winner though. That was a game changer for lower level people hitting 70 and wanting to adventure with their new friends in guild

I really do not like the random queue. The changes are nothing more than lipstick on a pig. I have also noticed that the ZAX backlog has started to increase again indicating the Devs attempt to cut back on AD production via limiting the number of random queue runs per account is looking like a failure.
