Unblogged Wisdom Checks: Should Neverwinter Hand out Compensations for the Bile Drenched Scale Bug?

Last week the devs finally acknowledged that there’s a bug with the Bile Drenched Scale from the Tyrant Hunt that you need to upgrade your Chain of Scales to its legendary rank 6. Since many players have run the encounter without a chance of getting the scale in recent weeks, folks have started to inquire about possible compensations. At first, it might seem like a no-brainer. Noworries didn’t shy away in his comments and clearly stated that they messed up. If that’s the case, then compensations are in order, right?

Not so fast though, because history has shown that the devs have trouble allocating resources to these kind of tasks. Some promotions that didn’t hand out all advertised items for example took weeks and months (!) to resolve. And even if, figuring out affected players and delivering compensations might be a manual process, as similar incidents like the Starlight Parcel issue in 2016 has shown. Back then, dev miasmat did extra hours over the holidays to get everyone their rewards.

Also don’t forget that compensations might set a dangerous precedence for bugs. If players now get scales, what happens in the future with similar issues? You might open Pandora’s box! Anyway, we’d like to get the community in on this one!

I personally feel they should remove the random element from it. It should be an auto-drop on a significantly challenging to make Hunt lure signifying that you have summoned and defeated the Tyrant. Not many people will ever get the pre-step lures to be even able to summon the Tyrant let alone farm it repeatedly. That some people have is a testament to the amount of time and resources they are willing to spend.
