The Winter Festival seems to be a true breeding ground for exploits as there’s something going on almost every year. 2014 players were able to open Gifts of Simril infinitely and in 2015 PWE brought down the servers for an emergency maintenance due to a Starlight Parcel exploit (and messed up the ban wave). Something similar might have happened this time around. Before the holidays the dev took down the server for a surprising maintenance, stating “backend issues” as cause. Immediately rumors of a possible exploit started spreading, but that was probably more because nobody could make sense of the downtime.
Multi Parcels from the Zen Market
There however indeed was something going on that may or may not have caused the emergency maintenance. We received reports that players were able to claim their free daily Starlight Parcel multiple times from the ZEN market. We also saw video evidence of a player getting the free gift more than once. The issue that has since been fixed can be classified as latency exploit. The server allowed to process multiple transaction when the first one hadn’t finished yet. Theoretically players could have been able to claim tons of free gifts by causing artificial lag. We could confirm the exploit for both PC and consoles.
The damage of the exploit is probably low as details never leaked to the public. From the limited amount of individuals that could potentially have exploited the bug only a few did. Nonetheless this adds to the Winter Festival related list of exploits. No bans have been reported yet.
