The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 36: Finally a new Chapter in the Progression

Welcome to a project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun! Maybe I should have waited writing the last piece of the series until after the Winter event, because that’s when stuff started to actually click for my lowbie Cleric. Through the double events and thanks to the money made with the Gifts, I was able to catapult my item level to 2,500. I have four purple Artifacts now, the Tiamat Artifact set and I’m on a good way to full Rank 8 Enchantments. The only campaign I need to do now before Storm Kings Thunder is Dread Ring. The Winter Festival was nice Another massive side effect of the Winter Festival is the ability to fill up Companions and Mounts. I got lucky with an Apparatus, but the Mounts for the other Insignia Bonuses I wanted were available

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 35: Another Month has Passed?!

Writing this episode of the Lowbie Diaries I realized that the project sneakily has gone from a weekly to a monthly write-up. Part of the issue is me not playing as much as I used to and therefore spending the time on my mains. But there’s honestly not a whole lot of things to talk about at this point of character progression. Still doing campaigns… At the Underdark Campaign event I gathered 7,000 Faerzress and can complete the campaign gradually. During the Winter Event I’m fishing for currency and hope to complete Icewind Dale and Dread Ring soon. Then it’s Storm Kings Thunder and Maze Engine to wrap up the campaigns. Tl;dr: It’s a slow yet steady process. In terms of gear I’m going to settle for the Burning

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 34: Event Preparations

This time in the diaries I’d like to talk about a general topic in character progression first. Event coverage is a vital part of our blog and I’ve also talked about them in a bigger context. Since the Thanksgiving holiday and with it Black Friday is approaching, it’s time to remind everyone to plan accordingly. These type of weekends can really mean a huge leap in progression for everyone. For different characters that can be different things. Some are hoarding and selling RP, trading in Guild Marks, waiting to spend ZEN or leveling new dummy ALTs. Now for a lowbie like my Cleric in example, which is currently sitting at 2,200 item level, I would more looking to the Double AD event (the first ever on PC!). Do your weeklies

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 33: Cleric Bests Sharandar

While leveling a new char I personally try to retain some fun and variety. Whenever I feel frustrated by the repetitive tasks, I cut down the daily routine and get to my sweet spot for that character. For my lowbie DC this is currently doing two leveling dungeons and grinding one campaign. On your first char you will most likely do more, but for me this is exactly the amount I can enjoy. Sharandar: Check! After reaching 70 I can also only advise to complete campaigns sequentially. You can theoretically do everything at once, but especially for casuals it might take too long to actually reach goals. Completing a campaign feels good and you can cross something off your checklist. Thanks to the new double event my DC recently bested

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 32: Full Rank 10

My lowbie CW reached another milestone last week as it sports full Rank 10s now, which transfers to 3,700 item level. I also made the switch to the Dancing Shield to complete the full debuff theme. I kept the original Goat layout so you can see the difference between the max HP build and the current one. Although the character is not BIS and currently only has Greater Bondings, I consider it finished. It is at max buffing potential (minus the High Vizier set, but at 40M I don’t see how the account could acquire it in any reasonable time) and more upgrades don’t majorly add to its efficiency. Progression done! Therefore the progression is done! I will still stuff RPs into the enchantments along the way and

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 31: Summer Festival Profit

In the last edition of the diaries I recapped how I started the Summer Festival off the wrong foot. I lost nearly 300,000 AD on my lowbie DC, but predicted the event would be a success regardless. Turned out I was right as my little Cleric made her first million. I got lucky with a Kessell Artifact from Mithral Tickets and invested the rest in Enchantments and a South Sea Fashion piece. I have not sold everything yet, but will supposedly get to 1,000,000 AD in the next days. I have not yet fully decided how to spend the ADs other than starting the VIP subscription for the account. With the other 500,000 I could be starting the bonding companion progression, but it might be worth waiting a bit

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 30: Summer Festival Fail

I welcomed the Summer Festival with open arms on my lowbies, because the changes on paper looked great. Unfortunately everything that could go wrong indeed did on my little Devoted Cleric. I had saved up about 300,000 AD from my daily runs that were intended as start-up capital for my first batch of level 70 equipment. Because I didn’t initially understand how the volley mechanic is supposed to work I bought six Sahha Balls for the money I had. I thought that I would probably get that investment back because I would be able to get to the Mithral ticket prizes earlier. Of course I didn’t know back then that you could get to the last tier at the first day anyway and that the tickets that drop are

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 29: I’m Rich Biaaatch

I’m afraid the update on my newly created lowbie DC is rather short this time. I’m still in the mid-60s grinding out the Elemental Evil and Tyranny campaign. It doesn’t look like I’m going to finish them before reaching 70, but I didn’t expect to. I also mix in Maze Engine and Underdark quests here and there and can soon start Sharandar as well. I like the current flexibility and variety post-60. If you witnessed Module 6 first hand you surely know what I’m talking about. The Elemental Evil campaign is still kind of dragging, but at least you can choose not to do it on a daily basis and still progress in other areas. The big reason why I couldn’t play the DC as much as I liked to is

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 28: Siege of Neverwinter

The Siege of Neverwinter event catapulted my new lowbie DC to 60 in no time. I was mainly busy farming the event with my mains, but couldn’t dodge the opportunity to push Illithiel a bit as well. Thanks to the surreal XP granted on the event map for pre-60 players, I needed under two hours to 60, but then the effectivity clearly diminished. I also stopped because I’m mainly interested how the new 60-70 progression plays out with the recently introduced revamped Elemental Evil campaign. I personally still find it a bit grindy because you literally have to play through every Vigilance Task once, but overall it’s a way better system than the hourly quests obviously. I’d still recommend mixing Elemental Evil with the Maze Engine campaign and Dwarven

The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 27: Illithiel

Illithiel As said in my last diaries, my Wizzy is now mature and it makes limited sense to use him for such a project any longer. This means Illithiel is born, a free-2-play Cleric that I’m going to try to bring up without any real money injections. I chose a Cleric because I like the class and the demand will hopefully make things easier to get into groups. I’m aiming for a buff DC and hence chose Drow because of the fitting racial. First we have to level her of course and I decided to exclusively use the leveling dungeons for that. It’s my approach of leveling alternative characters. Running two lower level dungeons fully rewards you with the daily ADs and you never run out of level-appropriate gear because
